Microsoft and U3?

Old news, I'm aware, but I wanted to see your thoughts on this.

http://www.microsoft.com/presspass/press/2007/may07/05-11SanDisk07PR.msp...

Apparently, Microsoft is teaming up with Sandisk to develop (or replace) U3 to make it more customizable.

"The new offering will be designed so that users can carry their personal computing environment — including a customized and familiar user interface, applications and data — on a flash storage device such as a USB flash drive or flash memory card."

What are your thoughts on this? I personally am kinda interested to see how this turns out, but I wonder what others think of this.

I think it is gonna be a failure like

Windows ME (Millennium Edition or "Mistake Edition")

If even more peeps find about PortableApps.com they will be more likely to choose PApps.com, since a little birdie told me that the PortableApps platform (not really a platform but the same little birdie told me that apps from this site is advertised as a platform) will be improved lots. Plus the stuff from this site is free (as in beer and rights).

Quote quoted from PC World.

As all of ya should know Microsoft is the Evil Empire, and Windows (a.k.a. Winblows or Windoze) is their greatest general, so please make a difference and install Linux or Free BSD on yer Windows comp.

Nice article...

"The new offering will be designed so that users can carry their personal computing environment — including a customized and familiar user interface, applications and data — on a flash storage device such as a USB flash drive or flash memory card."
Don't we PortableAppers live with that experience every day???

"The existing 20,000 U3 software developers that joined us show the potential for smart flash memory devices,” said Yoram Cedar, executive vice president of the Mobile Business Unit and Corporate Engineering at SanDisk."
I think thats a lot of development power! We have only John and are better than them.
*/let's have a BIG APPLAUSE for our chief developer/*

I don't trust anything

I don't trust anything Microsoft does.

I would rather people make whatever THEY like rather than depend on Microsoft.

Microsoft always ends up making something bloated and overly complicated.
