I know there have been many requests for a portable RealPlayer and I am aware that this is a licensed software that cannot legally be made into a portable app. Is it possible however to make a portable version of Real Alternative?
I work in an office where I cannot install any applications on the PC and would like to be able to stream some real media files off the net. I have tried all the copying of DLL files into Portable Firefox but that still requires Real to be installed on the host computer.
Can Real Alternative be modified to be installed on a USB drive and function without need for computer installation like VLC Player Portable or Audacity Portable, both of which I use.
Any thoughts?
If you provide a link to the official site.

Here is the Real Alternative Link.

It is from the k-lite web page
Real Alternative is a CODEC (not a program) and therefore HAS to be installed on the local machine. There's zero chance of making this portable. Same thing goes for QuickTime Alternative.
The Open Source media player "Media Player Classic" that comes with Real Alternative is a different story however, but that's not what you're asking for.

If the Open Source media player "Media Player Classic" will accept the codec that streams RealPlayer material, and can be made portable, then in effect it gives me, and others exactly what I asked about, a portable version of RealPlayer.
While I know that this is not technically what I will be getting, it will do just what is needed, especially if it can be made portable with both Real Aternative and Quicktime Alternative codecs already installed.
Should work portably on it's own.

You're original post states that the Real CODEC isn't installed on the local machine...which is a requirement for MPC to play files encoded in Real. Once again, The CODEC can NOT be run from a portable device without installing it into Windows. If VLC had the Real CODEC compiled into it like it does for a ton of other CODECs, you'd be good-to-go to use VLC portably for Real.
