A Note Portable [Test 4] - Note Taking UtilityPatrick Patience (Homepage)

Skip all this and just A Note Portable [Test 4], but if you know NSIS, I'd appreciate is you kept reading. And please let me know if your notes open on last exit re-open on the next run of different computers, thanks. Alright, the old thread got a little long and full of things I've corrected, so since I'm at test 4, I've decided to start a new thread. There was an extra line in the script in test 3 that was screwing things up, so I removed it, and made the copying of the settings silent. Now here's my question(s) for the next release:
Thanks in advance. A Note Portable And now, A Note Portable is a portable version of A Note, a desktop note taking program. Read here for a little more information. With the new version, once you run the program, your notes that were open on last closing should automatically open, it worked for me on three computers, only thing was, the portable registry settings weren't applied on my dads Vista machine, I don't know whether that's a Vista issue, or my dad's computer. Maybe someone has some idea, so please, try it out and let me know if your notes you had open on closing re-open on execution, is someone could test on multiple computers that would be good to. A Minor Note: Until I figure out a way to have the settings transfer quicker, they will take about 30 seconds top (unless you have a lot of notes) to transfer to your portable device silently. (This will be why Windows does not let it eject.) Changelog To Do

Excellent, a new release!
To be honest though, I've just been sticking to the desktop version as I haven't been travelling about to much. However, I'm going to LA to visit family in a bit, and this could definitley come in handy to remember what I need to do when I get home. Does it actually save your (my) notes yet, or do you (I) still have to export and import them every time?
Thanks
A Basic Overview:
What it should do, and what it does for me, is, if you have a local version installed it will:
-Backup the local settings in both the registry, (Settings in "Options") and in Application Data. (All of your notes)
-Next, it will copy your portable settings too the places where the program expects to find the settings. (Should be fairly quick)
-If you had any notes open on last close, it should automaticially launch them, and all the notes you have deleted (Not permanently) should be in the recycle bin.
-All your options, default title, note colour, lauguage, etc, should be the same as you had them on your last computer.
-When the program is closed, all of your settings will be copied back to the device. (Takes a little longer for some reason, but I'm checking into it)
-The local settings will be put back into their original spots, and everything is back to normal.
If you have no local install, should be the same thing, with no local settings variables.
Do note, until I figure out how to get the settings to transfer quicker, don't launcher the local install within under 1 minutes after closing the portable install. AT LEAST. And if the local install is running while you are using the portable one, just don't touch anything with the local and it should be fine afterwards.
So, what I would like confirmation on from you is that if you do have a local install, everything from the portable settings in right on launch, and the local settings and notes are the same afterwards as well. Remember, leave at least a minutes in between launcher local after portable, the settings are still copying!
The big thing is that your notes open on last exit on the portable AND local versions both pop up when each individual version is launched.
Example: Portable notes open when portable version launched.
Local notes open when local version launcher. (Again, at least 1 minute after closing portable version.
I would appreciate if you have the opportunity to check on more then one computer.
Thanks so much!

Umm.... That was rather hard
Umm.... That was rather hard for me to understand... Though I believe I got it all...
When I launched the new edition of Portable A note, all of my settings were the default. I changed them to the way I like. I then made an example note and closed a note portable. I then re-launched a note portable, and everything was as it was before I closed it. All my settings n' such were right. I closed a note portable, and opened up desktop version (after 60 seconds). All of my settings were right, and the example note didn't open up. YAY!
It's passed that test, now I'm off to study for finals... Hope I pass that test.
Hahaha.
Sorry, I was hoping you'd understand as confusing as it was.
Umm, that's good that it does that.
Just one more thing, if you do have a chance, test that your same notes open on another computer.

Actually.
Oh, wait, first, welcome back.
But, I have the splash done, and I have the installer done with my own side banner, and optional translations, I'm just trying to get the program better with the settings transfer.
So hmpff.

Improved A-Note
Hi!
I'm the author of the http://netbeings.org/anixdorf/ANote.zip Version.
You can use it instead of the original version from 2004.
To compile you need to open the dsw file and convert it to an VS 2005 Pro project.
Then you have to change all "for (i = bla..." to "for (int i = bla".
And you can set the "_CRT_SECURE_NO_DEPRECATE" Define to eliminate some warnings.
If you want, I can update the zip file for the VS 2005.

Hey.
What are the differences with your version?
And I don't have vs.

It's kinda scary when my desktop is messier than my room...
Differences
It has proxy support (with or without authentification).
It has a mode I call "private notes". Notes you set to be private will not be uploaded to the server.
The sync server on http://a-note.sourceforge.net is not working anymore.
It was hacked by a worm or something else. My version has a simple detection
if the server is valid and will produce an error message like 'Incompatible or corrupted server installation!'.
Of course, if you only transport it from one computer to another you don't need the sync features.
