Google Gears for Portable Firefox?

Has anyone been able to get Gears to work? By default, the executable will only install for standard Firefox, but this seems like a perfect addon for the portable version.

For those unfamiliar, Gears allows quick download of Google services (gmail, reader etc.) for offline reading. A natural fit, I'd say.

Simply copy the contents of [GEARS]/Firefox
to /FirefoxPortable/App/firefox/extensions/{000a9d1c-beef-4f90-9363-039d445309b8} where [GEARS] is the installation directory (c:/program files/google/google gears)
