Good Truecrypt news

I thought I would post here since people often ask about Truecrypt...

[link changed to actual homepage by moderator JTH]

Someone has made a GUI for a tool I never knew existed (http://forums.truecrypt.org/viewtopic.php?t=3817&start=98), which seems to provide the kind of functionality I have suggested before as an alternative to drive mounting - since a TrueCrypt volume is just a file, why can't we just edit it using some kind of TC-literate file browser?

Well, now we can.

Bear in mind a few points here - the tool this is based on seems only to like FAT volumes, I presume this includes FAT32 but I might be wrong, so I guess we should all try on empty experimental volumes before getting too excited.

Anyway, I hope some of you like this - admins feel free to move or copy this post to a more relevant forum if you think it's important Smile

Alpha level, so be careful

Just be careful with it. It's based on OTFExplorer which is a 0.1 Alpha level release. As the author states: "This should be considered an experimental release. Please do not use it on any containers that have valuable data that you cannot afford to lose..."

Sometimes, the impossible can become possible, if you're awesome!

Thanks for clarifying John,

Thanks for clarifying John, if they won't listen to you they deserve all the corruption and lost files they get...

...but it'll be great if it works!

As John said ...

... be very very careful!

I edit a truecrypt archiv with TCExplorer,
delete one directory, copy another.
I closed TCExlplorer.
Then every time I mount the archiv with truecrypt and try to jump into the new directory in windows explorer ... Windows XP crashs (no BOD, reboot!).

This is really an experimental release!

TCExplorer

TCExplorer is at PA.com. Just in case you didn't know.
