Not really

It's very hard depending on registry and system.

It's only possible via virtualizing , look at thinstall.com , there is a free virtualized NET 1 , 2 and 3 download able

Then you coul'd start the portable via a cmd over the virt. NET Biggrin

Not .Net Framework...

but Mono works pretty well. It doesn't work with all apps, but it is Open Source. I don't know how portable it is, but I think that it can be made portable.

Blue is everything.

No one cares enough to make

No one cares enough to make it portable but it would be still possible thought. Think it`s same with java, john has portable java but he don`t want to give it us yet. Sad

John can't give it to us

John can't give it to us because JAVA is not yet fully open source. He has to wait until the JRE becomes open source, and then he'll be able to release it.

John can't give it to us

John can't give it to us unless he changes his mind about not-open progs here or releases it in another place.

Is not about "changing minds" it's about legal restrictions... Do you want to face a trial for piracy? Not me, and I'm sure John neither... Wink

Being open-source has

Being open-source has nothing to do with licenses. There are commercial open-source products and free closed-source. And there was a rumour that John contacted Sun about distribution...Of course if he gets a refusal, distribution would be piracy. I assumed that Portable Java will be blessed by Sun's officials.
ADDED: Of course, being free or commercial also has nothing to do with distribution policy. The commercial-open source part was just meant as example.

He wants to host apps that

He wants to host apps that aren't open source, he has no place to host them now because all of his OS apps are at Sourceforge, that's why he's been working on creating a freeware server.

(Java is Open Source now... But this is not the reason for this post.)

I did beg John to publish instructions to make java portable. He could, be he don`t want. No legal issues with instructions how to make a own portable version.

Java is going open source,

Java is going open source, they havent fully gone OS yet. Anyway, John posted a Java Portablizer at:

https://portableapps.com/downloads/Java_Portablizer_1.1.paf.exe

It takes a local installed copy, and copies it to your portable device.

Also, several other people have posted instructions on making the JRE portable, just do a quick search.
