Pidgin is a cross platform messenger, originally from the linux/gtk world. So it doesn`t use windows system features like registry. It`s very similar to Gaim. Also it`s very easy to be made portable, there are instructions on the pidgin website.
But it`s still not hosted on portableapps.com, less important things got added before.
So what`s wrong with pidgin?

This is not a request. It`s a question and it has not been asked before. I think such kind of questions match general discussing.
You are asking why it is not here and if there is something wrong with it. As for those questions, they have been in fact asked several times in the past. Pidgin is GAIM2.0 final. AOL sued GAIM for the AIM reference and GAIM lost thusly they had to change there name. GAIM2.0Bx has been final it was just never released as final due to the lawsuit.
As for the wrong section comment, you are asking why it is not here and thusly it implies that you want it to be here. That is the angle I took on responding with the wrong section. I hope that Pidgin will be released soon. It will be, once John has gotten through everything else that he does for free.
So I implore you, patience. It will be released when it is done and not a moment sooner. There is no need for discussion on it as there is nothing to discuss other than why people are impatient for free things. Just shows that people as a whole no longer value time and that they want everything now and damn the torpedoes to get it.

There is nothing wrong with Pidgin, John just hasn't gotten around to finishing it yet. He released the other apps because those were ready for tesing. He doesn't have any set schedules, or release his apps according to "importance" he always says, "it will be done when it's done".
p.s. Pidgin is very similar to GAIM because Pidgin is GAIM
