ClamWinPortableDBUpdate version 0.3 released

In case anybody is using my tiny ClamWinPortableDBUpdate utility for ClamWin Portable, I wanted to mention that I have uploaded a new version of it (v.0.3). The biggest change is that it is no longer installed inside the ClamWin Portable folder but rather immediately outside it. I have also added a new .ini tweak, and the thing is now licensed under GPL 2.

The way freedomain.co.nr caches files, you may get obsolete web pages using the link above. If this is the case, then please try the following direct link: http://mkonar.selfip.com/clam/.

For whatever it's worth...

The last time I checked with the ClamWin forums, the "--mode=update" command switch for ClamWinPortable.exe that ClamWin Portable Database Updater uses wasn't officially supported--it is included in ClamWin's code "for internal use" by the developers. (See http://forums.clamwin.com/viewtopic.php?p=4468.)

ClamWinPortableDBUpdate on the other hand uses freshclam.exe, which is the officially supported command-line method to update ClamWin's virus definitions. I opted to use the freshclam.exe method because I felt that since it is officially supported, the chances of it breaking unexpectedly in a future release are lower than for the ClamWinPortable.exe --mode=update method.
