Is there a way to increase the buffering time? Or is there another reason why streaming audio is skipping at times? ( categories: )

Yes
Settings - Preferences. Be sure "Advanced Options" is checked. Then Input/Codecs - Access Modules and choose the type of protocol you're streaming. If HTTP, for instance, click it and change the default of 1200ms (aka 1.2 seconds) to something higher.
