Pidgin Portable 2.1.1 Pre-Release 1

I've just posted a test release of Pidgin Portable 2.1.1. A test release because I'm hoping this will fix some of the issues for folks with misconfigured PCs that affect used of GTK within Pidgin Portable.

Download Pidgin Portable 2.1.1 Pre-Release 1
(Will take a few minutes to hit the download servers)

I'm hoping we'll be able to get this working for everyone. If not, we'll have to switch to using the 'official' setup of making it portable. This would effectively kill the ability to use a shared GTK directory and the ability to have a legacy GTK alongside your modern one for use on Windows 95/98/Me. Two things I'd rather not have to ditch, but am willing to to maintain compatibility with the occasional oddball PC that's not handling things correctly.

Regards,
John

Will Test.

I hope we don't have to ditch legacy or common files.

Try PortableApps

Try it with a PortableApps directory in your root. And, remember, NO CHANGES! So don't use common GTK.

Install a fresh copy of Pidgin Portable to your H:\PortableApps directory and make no changes AT ALL. None, zip, zero, zilch. Just ensure a virgin copy runs properly.

In PortableApps?

Did you do it in the PortableApps directory in the root (not "Program Files"). I'm trying to eliminate spaces as a possible part of the issue.

Hmmm

Ok, well I'm at a loss about what's different on your PC compared to any others.

Could you please try the 'official' method of running it:
http://developer.pidgin.im/wiki/Using%20Pidgin#RunningWindowsPidginFroma...

The server is down at the moment, though. developer.pidgin.im goes down a lot.

I tried the 'official' method

with success ! No error occurs at Pidgin startup.

Then I tried the new release 2.1.1 of Pidgin PE (fresh installed on root folder, no changes) but without any success Sad

I always got the same error :

Error loading pidgin.dll.
Error: (1114) A dynamic link library (DLL) initialization routine failed.

If I use a common GTK folder instead I got another error:

Error loading pidgin.dll.
Error: (127) The specified procedure could not be found.

Think I got it

Ok, I think I have a solution that works now and doesn't lose all our fun extra stuff (shared GTK, legacy GTK, data in proper place for PAF, etc). Head over to this topic:
https://portableapps.com/node/8808

Post any followups within there.

Works fine

I think they changed some icons'n'stuff. I like the new look.
Leaves nothing and works flawless.
