StarDict 3.0.1 beta

erlang01 - September 26, 2007 - 5:25pm

Hello Smiling,

Short Description:

Program: StarDict 3.0.1 beta
License: Open Source/GPL
Description: Babylon-like Dictionary shell (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/StarDict).
Website: http://stardict.sourceforge.net/

Requests were made in the past to release StarDict 2.4.2 as a portable app (http://portableapps.com/node/6807). However, there already was a portable StarDict 2.4.2 that was released at the time (http://portableapps.com/search/node/StarDict). At the beginning of August, StarDict 3.0.0 was released, which did not display all characters properly. There is now StarDict 3.0.1, which is in beta (http://downloads.sourceforge.net/stardict/stardict-3.0.1.exe).

So StarDict was never released as an official Portable Apps program (only downloadable through the forums, not through the application list) and now there is an improved version of StarDict.

So thanks for the great site that Portable Apps is and if you have time, I believe many people would enjoy using an updated portable StarDict version. Smiling

Agreed.

Thanks for the update. I love the program and will make it Portable in the future, so expect to see it on the Applications list within time if John has no problems with it.

Great!

Great! Thanks for the answer. Smiling

Just Noticed...

It says the dictionaries are open-source, that's awesome. Smiling

Open-source dictionaries

Many new dictionaries might be available in the future. I am a volunteer at Distributed Proofreaders (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Distributed_Proofreaders) and I am now working with another volunteer who is tech-savvy so that a Babylon Builder-like editor is created for user-friendly dictionary making. If everything goes properly, all Project Gutenberg's dictionaries might eventually be converted to the StarDict format.

StarDict

still waiting for it
would be very usefull and much better than Babiloo
