Installing OOo 3.2.1?

Submitted by GrahamG on January 7, 2011 - 1:19pm

Just curious.

OOo is now up to release 3.2.1, whilst PA OOo is at 3.2.0. If I wanted to use 3.2.1. as my portable app (and I already had OOo 3.2.1 installed on my PC), would it simply be a case of copying the installed program files into the "App" subfolder in the PA OOo? I tried this earlier today and then ran a few registry checks and all seemed fine. Wondered if someone could confirm that?

Also noticed that OOo 3.2.1 includes a HTML editor (of sorts), would this be included in the 3.2.1 PA release of OOo?

Thanks in advance.

Why installer...?

Submitted by OppfinnarJocke on January 5, 2011 - 2:55am

I just DL'ed OO Portable... For me a "portable" app is is a piece of SW I just drop into a folder anywhere on my HD or USB drive or wherever (maybe after unzipping), and run from there. Why does OO Portable come with an installer? What does it install?

I am very picky (obviously :)) about what "installs" on my machine, as I use it for running recording studio SW and I cannot afford to have the machine cluttered with all kinds of background services running. Basically, all the apps I use, except a handful trusted ones, are "portable" in the sense described above.

Connect OOo Portable 3.2.0 to MySQL Server

Submitted by andymelton on December 14, 2010 - 9:48pm

I have been trying to use Base to connect to a local MySQL server. I installed JavaPortable. When you go to Tools > Options > Java, Use a Java runtime environment is selected and under Java runtime environments (JRE) already installed: there is a listing for Sun Microsystems Inc. version 1.6.0_22. I've been reading through the forums and other websites and can't make sense of what I am suppose to do to connect to the database. My last look into resolving this I came across an article that suggested I download a JDBC driver for MySQL.

Suggestion: Add "one icon" tip to OO Support Page

Submitted by Futureboy on December 13, 2010 - 2:36pm

As I was reading through all the great info on the site, I saw the "ShowSingleIconForMultiIconApps=True" tip of how to get the OO icons to show as one, but when I wanted to actually go back to that page again and make that change the ini file, I couldn't find/remember where I saw it. I went to the OO support page, but it wasn't there. I had to go to solanus's homepage link (pakins sourceforge) where I remember it being mentioned again in the write-up about Folderz.

Vista / OpenOffice Portable FILE EXTENSIONS (not sticking)

Submitted by aSystemOverload on December 11, 2010 - 3:52pm

Hi

I seem unable to be able to set the file extensions in Vista for my OO Portable. If I double-click an OO document it asks me how I want it to be opened (What program), if I browse to the OO .EXE and hit OPEN, it does nothing.

It's annoying having to open the application each time, rather than just double-clicking the document.

HELP!!!
