I would like to see a portable LaTeX package (like XAMPP) for Windows.
When installing LaTeX from the project homepage it installs multiple binary files
and applications - much like Apache/PHP/MySQL...
Therefore I was thrilled when I found XAMPP (and PortableXAMPP) and now I'm hoping
there could be an LaTeX analogue.

The License is the LaTeX Project Public License Version 1.3c. From skimming through it, it seems very similar to GNU GPL Version 2, and in one of the guides on the LaTeX site it says,
"This document was produced in response to suggestions that the modification and distribution conditions for the rules constituting the New
Standard LATEX system should be similar to those implied by Version 2
of the GNU General Public Licence, as published by the Free Software
Foundation.

There is an official version of MikTeX portable, and Texstudio is a great IDE for LaTeX development that also has a portable version.
Could you guys add these to the PortableApps platform/installer? That would make it easier for everybody else to use these tools.

When I wrote my request, the LaTeX webpage was down, so I tried to look it up on Wikipedia and it just said "free".

There's two ways to get the same drive letter on every computer. One is using my Substitute Drive which is based on SmithTech's discovery.

I strongly support this. Having a complete LaTeX system as an independent application would be tremendously useful, possibly including a DVI viewer.
One of the good people from the Danish TeX User Group pointed me to this page on making a portable installation.

Check out the TexLive DVD (torrent). You can run Emacs, Latex and loads of related packages straight from the DVD on GNU/Linux (intel, sparc, alpha), Mac OS X, MS Windows (all 32-bit versions), FreeBSD, OpenBSD, Solaris (intel, sparc), AIX and IRIX—or install to the HDD if you'd prefer.
I haven't used the 2007 version yet, but older versions worked well.
It is ready usable I just need to post the scripts and/or upload the package LyX and MiKTeX
I like webdesign, especially with some portable apps
I have compiled a LaTeX package including JabRef as reference manager, TeXmaker as editor, and a pdf and dvi viewer.
It runs on a usb pen drive only needing a batch script executed before and after usage. You can find it on this wordpress blog.

Looks interesting. But I'm really after a working version of portable LyX. (The only one mentioned here in forums is seriously bust.)
