Hi, First let me say thank you John for creating such great portable apps. I tell everyone I know about your site and the work that you are doing. Anyway, the issue is that I am running Toucan to back up files that are critical to operations here in our school district. When I first started using Toucan (v2.1) I was getting the error codes listed below but Toucan would run and the files were compressed and backed up. Since v2.3 all that happens is what is listed below and nothing is compressed into the zip file. I have tried running Toucan on the desktop and pointing to other (xls) files... with the same results. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

shall look into this some more, I initially thought that it was the full stops you had in folder names that was causing this but I cannot reproduce this in my testing

I just downloaded & installed the latest version 2.0.3. I am getting the same error on my Vista Ultimate 32-bit laptop. I have tried to backup single files, even a small filename directly off the C: drive and it still gives me that error message. I really like what I see in Toucan, but unfortunately it is useless to me until there is a fix for this. Any luck yet? Thanks for your help.

2.0.2 does not work; 2.0.1 DOES work.
I just saw that 2.0.4 was out... I downloaded and installed it on the thumbdrive. I ran the backup and it did compress and back up the files as needed, I did get the following output:

I shall have a dig in the source of the toolkit I use to try and clear up these errors once and for all!
Okay... I went to run my weekly back up. It did create the zip file but did not compress the files. Please find the log below:

It would seem this is 7-Zip spitting this error out. The only time I've seen this is when there are logical or physical errors on the drive.

John, Thanks for the response. I did a check disk on the drive concerned as well as ran spinrite on it. It's good. I also took Toucan to two different laptops and ran a toucan test on it... I got the following output:

With bringing it to two other computers and getting the same otput I doubt it is the drive. I will check it on my home desktops if you want further testing. R/ Bill
OS are you running? Is there anything different about it that you know of? This but still puzzles me hugely, it is certainly a wxWidgets and therefore Toucan error, but I have no idea what could cause it.
When you look at the file called Includes.txt in the data directory does it list all of the files that are supposed to be backed up?
I am using Windows XP on all three PCs.
I did try something different this morning. I installed Toucan to the root of a thumb drive, and it did run flawlessly... including listing all of the files that are supposed to be backed up in the "includes.txt". I looked at the PC where I am doing the Mapnet backup and these files were not in the include.txt file.
Hmm... after looking at it again, it seems it's trying to treat this file:
C:\Documents and Settings\XXXXXXX\Desktop\toucantest\Stop_Times.xls
As a directory. Which it shouldn't. Any chance you have some odd settings in Toucan itself that maybe aren't being interpreted correctly?

John, There is not any special settings or variables on this...
Are you telling it to backup specific directories. Or are you manually specifying any files, like the file mentioned above, for instance?

As you mentioned “it seems it's trying to treat this file:

When I select the first file within the folder it does list that file and then shows every subsequent file as a subfile under the first. For some reason the program treats the first file selected as a folder.
I can select the main folder, and it will back up everything in that folder. I have tried removing, excluding the files and sub folders, but the program will not allow me to do that.
Also, it seems that Toucan is not saving anything in the Include.txt file until “OK” is selected. IDK
To answer your question I only want three files from within the back up folder of the program. If you look at the log file at the top of the thread you'll see what I mean. John, thanks for all of your help man. I do appreciate it.

Guys, I think I have it figured out... I did not set up rules. I thought that you could just go to back up and select the files that you wanted to have backed up. I went to the rules tab specified the files that I wanted... I then went to the Back Up tab and selected new job, then included the "rules" in the rules drop down. I was then able to exclude the other files and sub folders I did not want. I have shut down Toucan and twice now, ran the back up three times and it seems to be working now. I will let you know if I have any other issues. Thanks again John & Steve. R/Bill
I finally have this bug found! The issue is with adding individual files to back them up, I assumed you were backing up entire folders. I shall either fix this in the next version or disable it.
I'm sorry Steve. I should have been more explicit with what I was doing. I was only looking to back up three certain files out of the folder. Though Mapnet's scripting does rename the old files prior to creating the new backup and these files are backup on a local server. These files are essential to our Transportation Department's routing of the students. I want to make sure I have an off site copy just in case.
