Wow guys, looks like forward compatibility won't be much of a problem for you all!
I can't imagine a defrag program not needing Admin privileges.
Clamwin will do what it can without Admin, but it works better with.
Eraser (I believe) will erase userland files, but needs Admin to thoroughly erase some other things.
With a bit of luck, the UAC accommodation that John has in various things for Vista will work okay with 7.

Funny thing though, I am using the old version, and its for XP, does that make any difference? (I am a beginner in Programming, Beginner is being Friendly...)

Windows 7 is part of a progression that started with Windows NT and continues through 2000, XP, Server 2003, and Vista. Most programs that were (well) designed to run under the Microsoft recommendations for XP should run under Vista and 7 (and indeed 2000 and even NT4).
The problems getting XP programs to work on Vista and 7 have primarily to do with programs that were "creative" in following Microsoft's recommendations for XP, things that worked okay under XP but didn't work so well under Vista because the recommendations became requirements.
The fact that the "XP" versions work under 7 probably just means that they were well designed to begin with -- something we expect from Open Source Software that is regularly maintained.
In general though, we should expect well-designed software to work under 7, not be surprised if it does.
That doesn't mean we shouldn't test that assumption as soon as Window 7 beta becomes available, so what you have done is very useful, just not exceedingly surprising.

Cool, that is some good info, never thought of that, and thanks I think, atleast I think there is a complement in there...?
lol,

That's about what I was expecting and what I've tried. The PortableApps.com Platform works just fine, too, though it is a little difficult to get to the systray icon due to the way that Windows 7 hides them all.
The Notepad++ issue was expected but will be resolved in the next release or two.
Sometimes, the impossible can become possible, if you're awesome!
Fast way to fix the Hiding, is to right click and select the little arrow, and click customize! That way you can select what is shown and what you don't need to worry about!
E=MC²
Unfortunately this probably wont be a viable solution when Windows is complete and in schools and workplaces. Could be locked down by sysadmins, customizing systray icons would probably leave behind registry entries and lastly, though I'm a noob there are many more worse off than me that would consider customizing the systray to hard

I am sure you could turn it also into an auto dock, as the task bar has docking features, so if there was a small script(I would test... Cant program though) that did that, we could see, other then that, you don't really need to hide those as you can Protect them with some settings in 7, its kinda built in...
E=MC²
You don't even have to open the Customize window. In 7, you can just drag the tray icons around. This even extends to dragging an icon to and from the overflow area!
I thought the beta was unreleased and the only way to get windows 7 was an illegal leaked copy...
Simplifying daily life through technology
The beta is out and you can get license keys from Microsoft through Jan 26, I believe.
Sometimes, the impossible can become possible, if you're awesome!
Though all of the keys you get are only good till August 1st...

Is there anything specific you would like me to test on my machine?
I am running a 4850e AMD, with 2GB Corsair Ram, and a M3A Motherboard, with a EAH3450 ATI Video card, so I think it would be good for a great many different testing subjects.
E=MC²
If someone wants to test it, you can download from the original web-page of Microsoft (http://www.microsoft.com/windows/windows-7/beta-download.aspx). The download is down the page.
I posted this here cause I was running windows 7 and had tested those apps above, it wasnt really a strong test, it was merely to say "Hey you guys are doing a great job and keep up the great work."

Windows 7 Was Developed on The Original Source Code Of Vista, There have Ben very minimal changes if any to the kernel. Thus Many applications are forward compatible. I would use it but it doesn't like my Kodak 5500 AiO printer. Anyway Microsoft as Set The System Requirements the same as vista, and there are only a few changes in the Areo Interface, otherwise i don't see what all the hype is about, it's just a dressed up version of vista.
I dont mean to sound rude, though to me it sounds like you were testing Build 6594, and the builds right up to 6959, were all the same Vista Kernel, the problem there is that it had a lot of the same vista problems.
The 7000 Build may not be the same kernel however, I base this explanation off of the fact that since the vista kernel had driver issues, they would probably keep it the same, or similar.
They also have made Windows 7 run off of an EFI boot partition that is 200 megs, so its not large, but it is faster, Windows 7 has booted for me in about 30-45 seconds, verses the same with windows XP but not windows Vista, at almost a minute uncleaned...
(Internally they made changes to start priorities, so that may also affect the speed I was noticing...)
(Sorry I know that this is not really what I made the Page for, but its a good place to keep the conversation... at least in my mind...)
(This topic could probably be locked)

If you watch the dev videos at Channel9, Plug-n-Play device startup was parallelized during initial OS load. In Vista and earlier it was serial...meaning once device after another.

200MB EFI boot image 0- I was using that with Builds 6801+ - as long as you did not perform an upgrade to install into pre-formatted partitions on a HD, you got the same 200 MB partition size.
However, having used Windows 7 now for 3+ months, I have to say that it is a lot snazzier, and with my limited use of PA and the apps I have it works flawlessly.
FWIW: KeePass developer Dominik Reichl has posted a link to a trunk build that fixes the Auto-Type function of KeePass in Windows 7 - works on both IE 8 and Fx 3.1b2. You can see this message https://sourceforge.net/forum/message.php?msg_id=6070379 for the link to the trunk release.
So, add another app to the "Works in W7" list.

The 7000 build is what I was testing on, I did add the app, but have not personally tested it.
No idea what its for.
Either way, the same is true about all those apps on the 64bit version of Windows 7, which is what I am currently testing out.
E=MC²
KeePass is an OSS Password manager with Auto-entry capabilities that requires Windows (v1) and .NETv2 (v2) to work. See http://keepass.info/ for details about the app itself, and https://portableapps.com/apps/utilities/keepass_portable for the portable version.
And, FWIW, I am running W7 x64 as well - I am cleaning up my UFD right now and can list a whole *slew* of apps and whether they work or not - but it will take me a day or so to clean everything up first.
Also, v2 (non install) can be extracted over the KeePass v1.14 (currently) installer to give you a portable v2 - I think John is not hosting v2 because it is 1) still in Beta, and 2) *requires* .NETv2 to be installed to work.
I have been using this method to have a portable v2 since the 2.0x alphas and have never had a problem, other than the occasional machine without .NETv2 being installed.

Its ashamed the release is over and i did not download it.
Firefox,Gimp,Open Office and Clam win work so that's good. So if I was to get that i probably would need to install the regular version of audacity to record music of the internet.
Will there be a portable os of windows 7 coming out?
My portable apps reside in a true crypt volume that I mount from a SD card. I opened several apps and they worked just fine, but I did run into some issues.
When I tried to save changes in KeePass I got an access denied error. When I tried to Install a new Application (Notepad) the install failed with access denied when it tried to replace the Notepad executable. When I tried to close the portable apps menu, it failed with access denied because it couldn't save a .ini file. Firefox generated an access denied error as well.
Ditto and Pidgin worked just fine.
I full Admin right on the box.
Any ideas?
Cheers
That's an access rights issue related to either Windows 7 or TrueCrypt. Keep in mind that Windows 7 is a beta OS and nothing at all is supported on it including TrueCrypt. It actually sounds like a TrueCrypt and permissions error, which isn't something we can assist with.
Sometimes, the impossible can become possible, if you're awesome!
I bet it's an incompatibility between TrueCrypt and Win7, because I've been using Win7 since the beta came out and every single app on my drive, including the non-PortableApps.com ones, have been working just fine.
And this makes sense given MS's promise that anything that works on Vista will work on Win7. Which makes the TrueCrypt incompatibility even more curious...
Also: I've read in a few places that MS wants developers to start supporting Win7 now (while it's still in beta) rather than later, to avoid the compatibility disaster that happened when Vista was released...
I didn't think it was an issue with the Portable Apps, but I though maybe somebody here had come across it. I jumped straight from XPSP3 to w7. I never used Vista, so I wasn't sure, if it was OS or TC related.
I've upgraded to TrueCrypt 6.1a from 5.1a today. I will test next week and report back.
Thanks guys!
i hope not too much people will install windows 7, instead they should use linux
even truecrypt is not compatible with windows 7 i dont care!
its compatible to linux, mac xp and 2k thats enough

It could be a problem with the access rights of the true crypt volume. I had the same issue after installing Windows 7 - TrueCrypt was only able to mount the volumes from my external drive in read-only mode. After checking the access rights of the container file I noticed that I only had read access with the account of the fresh Windows 7 installation. After changing the owner/access rights it worked as usual again.
