Firstly, let me point out that I'm using English Language version. The internal backup function is not working on 2 seperate devices on which I have PortableApps installed. I've tried typing in a path, I've tried browsing directly to the path, I've tried editing BOTH places where PortableAppsBackup.ini is stored, all to no avail. Any suggestions? Is there anything I can do to assist in solving this problem?

There are no INI customizations available for Portablepps.com Backup. You should not be hand editing anything associated with the app. If you do, it will probably break your configuration and fail to start. Everything is handled through the interface and it should be launched directly from the PortableApps.com Menu.
You can reset it by deleting your PortableAppsBackup.ini file within your X:\PortableApps\PortableApps.com\Data folder.

I did as you suggested and remove the INI file. I then tried another backup and it still failed. I then put a tick in the "Show Details" box and it worked. I now have a backup of my portable apps. I then took the tick out of the box and it fails. I then put the tick back in the box and it works again. Does this give you any idea as to what the problem may be ???
What kind of antivirus and antispyware are you running? I'd wager that it's blocking the method we use to start it without a window but allowing the method we use with a window. I'm gonna guess Comodo (we hate Comodo).

Kaspersky Internet Security 2009.
Could you try doing a backup once with Kaspersky disabled temporarily? (You can close all other apps and stuff just to be safe). I'm thinking it doesn't like one thing that occurs in TEMP but we may have a way around that in the next release.

I don't know what your thinking is but you are right. If I turn off Kaspersky, the backup runs OK.
Ok, thanks. That helps a lot. It looks like a specific method we use to run the backup is blocked by Kaspersky (and Comodo, I think). I'll switch methods for the next release and it should solve it.
Actually, hang on... let me post a test of it... later tonight (gotta run at the moment).

Still hanging on !!!
Hello,
i have same problem using on Vista Home and XP SP3 host systems.
I am using PAP Version 1.5.2, Geman language.
I delete portableappsbackup.ini file and deactivate Kaspersky, but it don't run from PAP menu. It always fails, with "Show details" and without.
When I open PortableApps.com folder and run portableappsbackup.exe file directly, it will do well.

What AV - Firewall software are you using?
PortableApps.com Advocate
I am using Kaspersky AntiVirus 2009, only Windows Firewall, no other security programs. After Disabling it still don't work, but it works well when I start backup exe-file directly from PAP folder.
What language do you have the PortableApps.com Platform set to? Are you using version 1.5.2 (the current one)? Where does it crash or immediately when trying to run?
Wait... I see that you mentioned it. I think you may have an old backup version. Could you try reinstalling the current PortableApps.com Platform 1.5.2 to ensure your copy of the backup is up to date?
