Can someone please tell me where I can get OpenOffice 2.0 portable? I'm looking for an older version, coz I do not have an USB 2.0 at office. OO 3.0 is really slow when i run it from the USB1.0 port. Can someone please help me out?? Thanks!

It's linked on the OO.o Portable homepage in Download Details:

It won't be much better on USB 1.1. If you just need a word processor, AbiWord would be much faster on it. But anything is gonna be annoyingly slow.
Sometimes, the impossible can become possible, if you're awesome!
you should be able to get a PCI card with USB 2.0 ports for pretty cheep.
I made this half-pony, half-monkey monster to please you.
The regular version has multiple security problems so they made 2.4.2 even as they shipped 3.0.0 (since a lot of people can't go to version 3). Maybe portabilizing stripped the vulnerable features?
http://www.openoffice.org/security/cves/CVE-2008-2238.html is one of the the issues, but by the time you sort through all the issues, 3.1.0 may be ready (end of March for the regular, somewhat later here for portable usually).
The PA folks discuss 2.4.2 in the fourm but didn't decide (and we know by now not to ask "when").

Anyone know if he can use the installed 2.4.2 version's apps folder in place of the portable apps folder? As a crude update, but without the smaller compressed files? Or is that only with "very simple" applications
2.4.2 is on the OOo site here: http://download.openoffice.org/2.4.2/other.html

Speaking of AbiWord, it has some level of ODF ability. As a heads up, if you exchange documents in odt with OpenOffice Writer, there are problems in one or both directions. 2.6.8 fixed some, but text highlighting still seems broken, picture placement, too. Super and Subscripts seem to have been fixed. Test the features you use before getting deep in a project. (Okay, I don't know if it's Abi, OOo, or the ODF standard "at fault", so no flames)
One that may be CRITICAL is if you use the Notes feature in OOo. Abi doesn't have a notes feature. It puts your note with the text that the noted pointed to, but then discards any text in that paragraph after the note. It starts with the following paragraph as if nothing was missing. That can hurt.
Consider using OOo PDF export and a pdf printer with Abi?
(PS I do love OOo and use it daily)

The 2.4.x series is a dead end. Most OO.o translation teams didn't even bother with 2.4.2. It's only available in English, German and Italian.
Just use 3.0.x portable. Neither 2.4.x nor 3.x is going to be usable over USB 1.1 anyway (which is what this topic was originally about).
