All icons from official Portable Apps disappeared after upgrading the platform to 1.5.
Other (non official) apps icons are still there, though. Weird....

Did you happen to mess with any of these folders under your old version:
X:\PortableApps\NameOfApp\App\AppInfo
They should contain both appicon.ico AND appinfo.ini ?

Things have got to get better, they can't get worse, or can they?
Dear Sir,
Thank you so much for your wonderful and beautiful program.
I have a similar problem as dedalus...
In fact it is a double problem:
1. the official PortabbleApps icons are not shown.
2. the Icons that are shown are not displayed fully
Please have a look at this screen shot:

At work Portabble apps works perfectly well (XP)
At home I use Vista Home Premium.
Thank you for offering ideas in solving this problem.

Did you change the way Vista displays icons or the sizes of them at all? What's your screen DPI set to?
Sometimes, the impossible can become possible, if you're awesome!
Dear John,
I seem to have a similar problem after updating the platform to 1.5.0 and consequently to 1.5.2. My windows system is still Vista Home Premium. Screen DPI 1680 x 1050 (unchanged). If I am not mistaken all of the icons of applications from portableapps.com but some beta versions vanished.
I am very thankful for these wonderful applications and am looking forward to the new features coming.
Peter
PS: This usually means that Windows' icon cache is corrupt or full. In Windows XP, delete IconCache.db from your /Documents and Settings/[user]/Local Settings/Application Data folder. Renaming the IconCache.db didn't work for me.
I meant DPI... dots per inch. Usually 96dpi. Some set it to 120dpi.
I'm running on Windows Vista Home Premium SP1 at screen resolution of 1680x1050 and can not reproduce the problem. I've been unable to reproduce it on any PC, any OS, any resolution. Can you think of anything else out of the ordinary with your PC? Using any icon managers? Any theme hacks? Try disabling antivirus and any extra firewalls temporarily?
If the icons are missing in, say Firefox Portable, can you browse into X:\PortableApps\FirefoxPortable and rename AppInfo to AppInfo2 and then refresh the app icons in the menu to see if they then show up? This pulls them from the EXE insterad of the ICO files.

Bingo!
Do I have to do the same procedure for all of my applications? Or is there an easier way?
Many thanks
Peter
No, that was just to test a theory. There's still something messed up on your PC that is interfering with the a simple ExtractIconEX API call on an ICO file. We just need to figure out what it is.
What else is running on your PC? Can you try closing out of everything else? Are you installed to the standard X:\PortableApps\ location?
Sometimes, the impossible can become possible, if you're awesome!
Dear John,
standard X:\PortableApps\ location yes,
Avira Antivir Premium (now off),
Threatfire (now off),
ABBYY Screenshot Reader (now off),
TB (now off),
FF
DSL-Manager (german Telecom) (now off),
Norton Utilities (off before)
SanDisk Cruzer taken off and plugged in anew
Icons refreshing started --> no change.
Norton Utilities de-installed
SanDisk Cruzer taken off
Windows re-started.
Icons refreshing started --> no change.
Peter
PS: All programs but Norton Utilities (which was new) were installed before. The change in my case came with updating to the new platform.
How is your drive formatted... FAT or NTFS?
Sometimes, the impossible can become possible, if you're awesome!
SanDisk Cruzer is formatted FAT32.
