PeerGuardian, a new approach

Program: PeerGuardian

Homepage: http://phoenixlabs.org/pg2/

License: Open Source

About:

PeerGuardian 2 is Phoenix Labs’ premier IP blocker for Windows. PeerGuardian 2 integrates support for multiple lists, list editing, automatic updates, and blocking all of IPv4 (TCP, UDP, ICMP, etc), making it the safest and easiest way to protect your privacy on P2P.

Further Notes:

PeerGuardian 2 is Open Source, meaning the program code is available online for anyone who wants it. Not only does this allow you to make modifications or even branch off into your own project, but it encourages peer review of the code making sure any bugs are eliminated swiftly. Because PeerGuardian 2 is Open Source, you can rest assured there are no backdoors or spyware included.

Phoenix Labs and the PeerGuardian team do not condone copyright infringement. There are many legal uses of P2P and we are sick of being treated like criminals! We want to keep organizations and individuals from collecting data about us without our consent.

I have been reading in some of the other threads here about it and it all boils down to PG needing a driver to operate. Why can't it be drafted as a local proxy instead? I suggested this in another forum but I think that has since been forgotten.

Users that wish to have PG for the benefits of IP blocking, would configure internet applications to access the local proxy and get all the benefits, yes? Or am I missing something. Instead of a driver blocking all applications, only the desired applications would be configured by the user.

Try Reading Next Time

I've suggested a way around the driver problem. I did search, and I noted that in my original post. You decided it was funnier to not to read my idea and just post "Search".

Limits are for people with no imagination.

And

Even if it had not been completely obvious from the OP that he did search, very well in fact, a post which just says "SEARCH" is never appreciated Sad

Tim

Things have got to get better, they can't get worse, or can they?

My apologies to everyone

I was in a hurry that night and I did glance over your post. I apologize for not seeing your workaround for the driver part. I had seen a post earlier about this needing a driver and couldn't remember where it was. I took the quick way out. I'm sorry. This wasn't meant as funny, it was a "quick, get it done and move on to the next post, so that I could get to bed" action. My bad, I'm sorry, I won't reply again without thoroughly reading the post and having the original link at hand.
