What did I do wrong or not do? I put this in my PortableApps folder, is that the desired location? Configuration needed? Tried it with Firefox both, opened and closed. Got the same issue both times.
This will be nice once the bugs are worked out.

Questions

Which one are you using?

What is your default web browser?

Does the picture show up?

No configuration needed. Firefox does not need to be open.

Firefox

I don't use I.E. but it's still enabled as the default browser. I use Firefox from a portable hdd, with the PortableApps menu installed, with the PortableApps search folder placed in the PortableApps folder. The search box does open, but the error occurs when you enter a search item into the query box and click the PortableApps search button. Tried it with Firefox opened and closed, same problem either way. I
don't have a local install of Firefox, just the portable version. Do I need to use the I.E. version or install Firefox locally? I remember something mentioned here about not making FirefoxPortable your default browser, I have left I.E. the default for that reason.

Idea

I never thought of making it run using the portable firefox. I will make a new version of this to run firefox portable.

Edit: The reason it would not run was because you did not have firefox locally installed.

Nice little script

Although I would suggest adding in these three lines

#IfWinActive Portableapps Search
Enter::
ControlClick Button1, Portableapps Search

#IfWinActive makes it so that enter will only have an effect if your window is active. when enter is pressed it makes it act like the button was pushed. For people like me that don't use the mouse that often it's kinda a must and makes it feel a little more professional. If you want help maybe making the app accept more advanced parameters feel free to email me jacobm001 @ gmail.com. I'm on IRC too fairly often.

Thank You

That code is very useful. One problem I have is with the variable that it searches. It only searches for the first word if there is a space in it.

Edit: I was wondering what parameters were you stating?

Easy Fix

Okay that's an easy fix. Adding in line 16 simply replaces those pesky spaces with the + symbol (which is what most searches use to replace spaces. Also Since most people won't manage to search more than once I made the app close after searching.

http://mastel.pastebin.com/d11b8b8c2

If you want to make it work with PortableFireFox it will take a bit of work. You'll need an INI to tell where FireFox Portable is.

What I meant by advanced parameters is if you click the search button below the search box on the new page there's an advanced option. You can use that within the URL too Wink

If you could help

If you could help me with the Advanced Parameters. With working with portablefirefox, they would have to put the folder in their portableapps menu and it would run it.

I would recommend

Having it run similar to the launchers. Expect PortableFireFox to be where it should unless a .ini file is present. If so then use the given directory.

I would need help with that and the parameters since I am somewhat new at autohotkey.

I can't understand what to do with that. Could someone make a "program" for it. If it is still being developed I can wait.

I don't have a short attention span. I just...oh look a kitty!

Use the one up top, this is a script with added GUI features that have no function (but it will soon). Please use the one up top.

or you could do the less

or you could do the less complicated way and change the button creation code to:
Gui, Add, Button, x132 y112 w100 h30 Default, Portableapps Search

But there’s no sense crying over every mistake,
You just keep on trying till you run out of cake.

Nice idea

This is mostly designed for public/school/friends computers that you would not be able to add this to it. And for portable firefox?-it boots up to slow.

Installer things

OK, I've got a few things to say about the installer: installer.ini is entirely superfluous, and the appinfo.ini string [Format]:Version should be 0.90 now rather than 0.9.8.

Also, the content/user history (Today) entries don't work if the file doesn't exist: check if it exists first.

I'm also fixing up various things with it to make it look nicer. I'll post my code when I'm done.

Not any more!

Here it is Smile

I tried including the grey-to-white background (see lines 74-80) but decided it didn't look as good as just plain plain - not white, the OS default. I've also switched from absolute values all over the place to relative values, which makes maintenance a lot easier.

I also added searching with Google an option (adds site:portableapps.com), improved help window, improved lots of things. Changed the escape behaviour to minimizing to tray, only show tray icon when window is hidden, fixed up access keys so they're unique, checked to see if Firefox Portable is there, if not don't show the checkbox, switched from FileRecycle (non portable) to FileDelete, added a Win+R reload key combo for debugging purposes, added a Win+S key combo to open the search window, and probably did a lot more. Oh yeah, I made it work from the source file as well, and gave it all the proper icons. And I made all the history windows use GUI window 2 as they just don't need their own ones.

Get it!

Double Click doesn't work

Double click doesn't seem to work in the listviews. I am trying to implement a .txt viewer to make this completely portable.

Referer

It sounds like you're using something other than an ordinary web browser to download it. You need to have the referer set to download it, as browsers do. Try using a browser, or setting the referer in whatever you're downloading it with to the page which the link is on.

Using Opera 10 Turbo Alpha without using turbo. I think that is a browser 8·P. I tried again telling it to use the referrer info of FF & IE & i had the same exact result.

Suggestion

Just tried this out for the first time and have to say I think the concept is great and you seem to have executed the idea very well so bravo. I would suggest however further changing the icon as It's still fairly hard to distinguish from the menu icon. Maybe superimpose a little magnifying glass over the PA icon?

Nice

The icon on 2.9 is much more easily discerned so so yeah nice = ) A couple more suggestions if I may:

* Propose this to John as being an addon for the main menu? That way when one uses the search function on the menu there is a Search PortableApps.com option in addition to the current options. I think this would require porting the app to Pascal but considering the potential of it I think it would certainly be worth it.

* Code the search function to check if there is a Firefox Portable before launching the search. If there is then utilise this as first option for browser to search before using the hosts default browser. Maybe have this be changeable in an options section with your app. Just noticed you already have this as an option which is great. However I would suggest moving this into an options menu, same with the donate button as a means of cleaning up the main interface.

* Have the option to minimise to tray by default rather than use the hide option. Think of how TaskCoach Portable manages this. Again this option could be changeable from an options menu.

* Maybe have an option to use Chrome Portable (from PortableApps.com) for those who use Chrome.

* Code the Google search function to use the PortableApps.com Start/Google search. This would help raise money for PortableApps.com. Maybe have this again be an option in the proposed options menu to switch between the PA Google and regular Google search? This is just to ensure we give people choice.

* Remove your username from the installer file name and the install folder name. For credit put your by line in an about section. Or to avoid making superfluous menu entries maybe put this in the proposed options section?

Hope this helps.

Good Ideas

Propose this to John as being an addon for the main menu? That way when one uses the search function on the menu there is a Search PortableApps.com option in addition to the current options. I think this would require porting the app to Pascal but considering the potential of it I think it would certainly be worth it.

I was thinking this but I do not know anything about Pascal except for it is a computer language (it is, right?)

However I would suggest moving this into an options menu, same with the donate button as a means of cleaning up the main interface.

This is a good idea but I think the donation button on the main interface would be the best since it is right there.

Have the option to minimise to tray by default rather than use the hide option. Think of how TaskCoach Portable manages this. Again this option could be changeable from an options menu.

This is what I was thinking about in earlier releases. Would be a good idea.

Maybe have an option to use Chrome Portable (from PortableApps.com) for those who use Chrome.

I already got this to work.

Code the Google search function to use the PortableApps.com Start/Google search. This would help raise money for PortableApps.com. Maybe have this again be an option in the proposed options menu to switch between the PA Google and regular Google search? This is just to ensure we give people choice.

Good idea but no option because they are both Google

Remove your username from the installer file name and the install folder name. For credit put your by line in an about section. Or to avoid making superfluous menu entries maybe put this in the proposed options section?

This is an easy fix.

Comment:

Having -AppGuy appended to the AppID is correct. Don't remove it. Others, take a look back at the format spec and you'll see that it should be there in this case.

Also, it's Delphi, not Pascal, that's the language which the PortableApps.com Menu is written in.
