Does anyone have a free bin unpacker for Windows? Mac-on-a-stick requires a bin to be unpacked, and I tried with Stuffit, but it just makes a smil presentation?!?! Supposedly it changes into some image files. Please help! Maybe someone with a Mac could unpack it for me? Please?
ya i have the same problem. i even tried daemon tools and it didnt work for me. anyone know how to do it? by the way i guess you have to boot this program, or is it possible to have it embeded (as in it runs in a seperate window on the screen)
EDIT: hey if this file is only needed to install the os then can i use an old mac os cd and run the installation on my pc using the emulator. would that work/how would i do it.
Hm.
My ZIP app (ZipGenius, http://www.zipgenius.it) can't open the files. I'll see what I can do.
Cheers!
--nm35
that program looks pretty good, i will have to take a closer look when i get more time tommarow. if you can figure out a way to get it to work then you would be my hero nm35.
by the way if i have a recent version of mac os (like tiger) could i install it the same way as here. just drag the install file over to the program. if so i will buy the latest version and use that on my pc... what you think?
i dont need the image anymroe because i got a cheap ibook. if you still need help extracting the images i guess i can help you (i am not really knowledgable about macs yet so i dont know how to do it yet). if you want help with that send me an email or post here (either way will probably check it within a few days). also if you know how to do it off the top of your head then say how. i think the stuffit program for mac will be able to do it but i wont try unless you need it...
you need a mac to open the archives
Can someone with a mac compile the entire thing with everything extracted and working and Zip it and host it for us please!
Simplisticification is as simple as it gets!

you guys do know that an ibook is a mac right? i am thinking that you guys are not really expirienced with macs yet: hence the need for the images.
posting it would be illegal, i believe
correct me if i'm wrong
ummm have you seen where the file is? it is distributed by macintosh for free. it is on their website to download.
they obviously dont put their latest version up there, that would lose them money but they put a version that is really old and obsolete there for free download.
the most resent version of mac os is 10.4 and the free version is 7 so you can understand why no one would buy system version 7.
now i am not sure if they packaged it as they did to keep it only for mac users but i doubt that. basically it is a file format that is popular for image files.
i understand your concern though. i also am very careful in making sure what i download is legal and that i obtain it only in a way the developers wanted.
where can I host it?
running into the same problem here :/
you can host it like here:
http://www.rapidshare.de/
or
http://www.putfile.com/ (rename it to name.swf)
with Stuffit 9 trial i can expand the 7.0.1 file to System 7.0.1.smi
but than it goes wrong. My best guess is that you lose the 2nd file of the smi. Any help?
http://phaux.ath.cx:900/uploads/4361macemulation.zip
you get the .image files for installation, a blank .dsk file, vmac.rom, and mini vmac.exe
about 4mb.
got to love this guy!
up and running!
thx pal!
but, if you really want to get into Mac Emulation, get Basilisk 2 JIT for windows.
i cant get Basilisk running. i got the archive, installed the gtk runtime, copied that library file into its directory but when i open it i am told that it cant find c:/windows/system32....cdenable
also gives me a prompt that it cant open the rom file, which i am not sure what that is.
how exactly are you using this program. seems better than vmac but i cant seem to get it running.
thanks a whole lot. hate to ask questions after some success but:
1)anyone know how to install more software
2)can there be a direct hd install, like i would be installing it to an hd partition, bootable with grub.
3)if i go out and buy tiger today would i be able to install tiger with it instead of system 7
1)anyone know how to install more software
look at the site. it explains it. (i don't have anymore)
2)can there be a direct hd install, like i would be installing it to an hd partition, bootable with grub.
no. your processor is the wrong architecture
3)if i go out and buy tiger today would i be able to install tiger with it instead of system 7
no. vMac can only emulate Mac Classic
thanks for answers but
for software one it says windows users need hfvexplorer which i downloaded and could navigate the mac file system from it but not copy files into it.
can someone help me add programs, i am still a little lost. plz post or send me an email randominternetguy@gmail.com.
It works and it's really really cool
It's really really great!!
I had a Macintosh Performa with that OS when I was 4-5 years old!!!
It was my first computer!! I remember I was creating some folders and playing a game called Velocity.
That's really great to work with first os that I have seen!!!!!!!!!!
Thanks for un-packing that .bin file!!

Can someone rehost this? I'm new here and I wasn't around when it was original available for download. Thanks in advance.
It looks like the web host got changed and it lost the file.
Could you email it to me at liu.zachary[at]gmail[dot]com?
Thanks.

First off, Apple distributes the files not Macintosh... *stifels chuckle*
From the original system1 through the end of system7, it was always a free OS. Since it would run on nothing but there hardware there was no reason for Apple to charge for the OS as it was all a bundle. System8 they started charging and then same with OS9 and OSX.x. Until OSX, all updates were free. Now with OSX.1 and OSX.2 and such those must be purchased. Patches for the dot releases are still free.
The older Mac OS's are all easily available from both Apple and and many other sites. I even have a CD at home for the old Mac's that contains the best freeware and shareware apps for the old Mac's and it even contains every version of the the OS that was free.
Apple doesn't care whether people download the old OS'es not just because there is no money in it. Simply it is because nothing now a days will run it but old Mac's that still have not failed in there hardware yet.
And BTW to everyone that wants to run Tiger and such on miniVmac, it won't work. Simple explanation...
Old Mac's equal Motorola 68000 processor series same as what powered the Sega Genesis. New Mac's, IBM/Motorola/Apple Power PC G5 and Intell CoreDuo and Xeon Core Duo processors.
Think of the old 64K's as a 486 but only better and faster. A Pentium one contains 2 486 cores. P2 is what like 5 cores. P3 is 7 cores... etc.

I don't think garyozzy's link is working anymore...
Never Fear!
I've created a Standalone [1 File] version of System 7.0.1 on the Mini vMac emulator. Its about 2.6mb. It's read only which means you can't install any applications on it, but it would be good for those who don't really need to install them.
You can download it at:
http://www.mysharefile.com/v/6162849/System_7.0.1.rar.html
Use WinRar to extract the file. The file in the rar should be "System 7.0.1.exe" I think...
Anywho, Have fun!
how do you make it non-read only? can someone either email me the file to randominterntguy@gmail.com or give me a description on how they did it. would really help me out a lot.
Cheers jacksont123, going to have a play with this at work tomorrow :).
Dell XPS M1530 Laptop
Intel Core 2 Duo T9300 2.5GHz

hey jacksont123,
your Standalone [1 File] version of System 7.0.1 on the Mini vMac emulator is gone,if you could upload it again it would be a big help.
thanks
I tried both links for the package of software to emulate Mac 7.0.1, but bthey both don't work! I have all the files to emulate, except
"install l.image", so can someone tell me where to get that? THANK YOU
i uploaded this file [http://bttfpromo.net/files/6c14361macemulation.rar] and i think the file you're looking for should be in there.

How can u tell if it's read-only or not?
Hi, Is anyone willing to email me a copy of the Zip folder that was previously hosted as I too have had trouble getting this to work?
With thanks,
Chris
I seem to have found a small (SMALL!!!!!!!!) pre installed disk on a web site.
Here it is:
http://www.rolli.ch/MacPlus/Archives/ZIP/Disk608.zip
(It runs 6.1.8 )
If you are lazy and want everything you need at once,
here is the complete zipped up version (includes HFV Explorer, vmac.rom, small disk,) (Win version)
http://www.mysharefile.com/v/1292671/Mac_on_Stick.zip.html
This one includes a large disk as well.
http://www.mysharefile.com/v/2186780/1_Mac_on_Stick.zip.html
Here is an *unpacked* folder zipped and ready for downloading. I got a Mac a couple months ago, and I just dug up the Mac-On-Stick folder on my PC. I unzipped all the contents of the System 7.0.1 download, and made a zip archive of the folder. The folder has:
1. Install 1.image
2. Install 2.image
3. Tidbits.image
4. Fonts.image
5. Printing.image
6. HFS24M.dsk
7. vmac.rom
8. Mini vMac (this version is for Mac...for you Wintel users, make sure that you have the Windows version of Mini vMac already installed)
This setup has the install images for SYSTEM 7.0.1! In the above list, the ".image" files are the disks. When the installer asks for disks labeled "Install 2", "Fonts", "Printing", and "Tidbits", drag the appropriate ".image" file onto the Mini vMac window. Remember, the installation instructions are here. Make sure to read them!!
--->THE DOWNLOAD IS HERE.
NOTE: THIS DOWNLOAD WON'T EXPIRE (UNLIKE THE OTHER ONES...)!!
Cheers!

Methinks you missed one link though. Mine
Please do not make duplicate posts in the future.

What do you mean? And, not everybody has the tool to unpack a ".7z" file...you should zip it instead. And I didn't make a duplicate post of that...
tomnook10
Your bold text about how your link wouldn't expire like the others.
Sorry about the 7zip file, so many people seem to use it here, didn't think it would be an issue. I would really suggest getting an app that will handle more formats.
You posted about this here also.

The person who started that thread where I posted was also having problems, so I posted my file...And some Wintel users won't be able to unpack a ".7z" file. I can. Sorry about the line about not expiring, I didn't see your file when I wrote that...the rest of the files posted here did expire, though (except yours).
Now we have 2 links for everyone. That is a lot better than links that expire!

The page times out...Anyone willing to email the files?
I just wanna thank u, that now i can run mini vMac.
at first little bit confuse, because it ask about disk image.
so i try to put install1.image rather than hfs24M.dsk, and then one thing lead to another, just follow the instruction.
Superb
Now i'm trying to add software, but i'm wondering how many software can i put ? and since this is my first time with Mac OS, i really don't have a clue what software also what version should i put ? any suggestion ?
can i make larger disk image? how?
thanks guys
If somebody has a mac and is reading this.
Can someone please make a larger disk image (52mb) and upload it.
Use this code in the terminal:
dd if=/dev/zero of=hfs52M.dsk count=106496
Thanks Very Much
