Deluge Portable 0.5.8.7 Development Test 1 (BitTorrent Client)

Application: Deluge
Category: Internet
Description: Deluge is a simplistic put powerful BitTorrent client with a easy-to-use interface and very easy configuration.

Download Deluge Portable 0.5.8.7 Development Test 2 [8.7MB download / 17.1+MB installed]
(MD5: e42b6185e072065985c805ad80cbab77)

Release Notes:

Development Test 1 (2008-04-13):

  • Updated to Deluge 0.5.8.7

Development Test 1 (2008-03-04): Initial release

Note: Deluge uses PyGTK, which is GTK with a Python wrapper, so I don't believe there's anyway to use it in a common files setup, but that's being dropped anyways.

Hm.

I'm not experiencing any issues with it, works fine for me.

Great job though. Smile

Yay!

I've been waiting for this one for a long time. Excellent job, Patrick. Smile

this maybe

for the app its self but i have never used this one. when I click on the add url nothing happens. This was the way I on utorrent I added new links to download. Hopefully this just some over sight on my part and someone can point me in the right direction. I did look around the forums on the app site but found very little there.
thanks Bob

edit: after restarting the program it worked fine

Error...

First time ive ever used deluge and ive already found a bug. I have a single port forwarded for torrents, set on uTorrent. If uTorrent is still open with the same port as deluge, then you start deluge, the program simply crashes with the following error
http://i30.tinypic.com/tz2mw.png
and dbus-daemon-deluge.exe is still running in the task manager after it crashes in this way.

Other than that, seems good.

That's not a bug in the

That's not a bug in the portable version or of Deluge itself. You can't have two programs trying to use the same port at the same time.

By bug, i meant for example

By bug, i meant for example coding it so that it checks that the port is available, and if it isnt then it returns an error with the problem, then completely terminates the programs, rather than returning a general C++ error and not terminating the daemon.

And that would be an issue

And that would be an issue with Deluge itself as I stated above. Post you suggestion on the Deluge website.

a bug on their end? lol, i would think that would be a bug on your end for not redirecting it or cleaning it up at the end in your script

No

I don't think I should have to clean it up. The Deluge on Windows dev added a switch to re-direct the profile, which works. Apparently it still creates that folder nonetheless which is shouldn't. It's no problem at all to check if empty and remove, but it's still something on there end.

However, didn't KompoZer do the same thing?

Directory Created in Vista

I just noticed that Deluge Portable 0.5.8.7 Development Test 2 creates a directory in Windows Vista. The directory is at C:\Users\UserName\deluge. This might be because of a default setting within Deluge, but even if this is the case, I think the default setting needs to be changed because few will look at the settings.

Dang.

It won't run on Windows 98.

Of course, it's not supported.

But it would still be nice.

Windows 98 support is being dropped by a lot of program, Firefox included I believe.

Portable vs. Installed

When I run the installed version of deluge, it simultaneously runs a Python process that uses 29,000 k of memory. I don't see this process with the portable version. Also this package seems to be much smaller than the installed version - 17 MB vs. 29 MB installed. How is this all possible?

I Dunno... Magic?

The binaries are compressed with UPX, but this is an older release of Deluge, so I'll have to update soon and check things out.

Ha Ha!

Yeah, I guess UPX compression would account for the files sizes.
How about the RAM usage? Why does my locally installed Deluge need to have Python running and consuming 29,000 K?
Maybe your portable package is "magic"

Halite:
http://www.binarynotions.com/halite-bittorrent-client

Although i'm still using this version of Deluge with no problems but wished someone would take over this and updated it cause for me its the best one out there since utorrent was purchased by bittorrent.com and became closed source.

Halite is very good. I

Halite is very good. I haven't used it for a while, but it was definitely looking promising a few months back. Deluge is horrible IMO. I've never had any luck getting it to run the way I wanted it to.

My Ten Cents

I prefer deluge to halite, but honestly, I'd enjoy ANY portable torrent app at this time. Any word on a deluge update or is there another client being used now instead?

Updates

I would consider updating this, as I need to update the internet version, and fix some download paths as well, however Deluge just isn't getting any better on Windows.

I'd suggest trying out Frostwire, which requires portable Java. There's a beta in the forums if you take a search, it should describe how to use Java with it as well.

Don't need no Deluge portable daemon, just the portable *client* please! That should make it easier.

Status on BitTorrent

If John gives me an update on what we're doing about BitTorrent there's a minor possibility I could try my hand at updating this. Minor, but if I get that Windows machine fired up... maybe.
