There's always the live CD. The only downside is that you are limited in the size of table you use (which would happen in a portable version anyway, but it's pretty easy to get a flash drive >700Mb) but give it a shot, it always worked great for me.

The live CD is over 400mb, the installer is just under 6mb.
A portable version would be far nicer...
Just install Ophcrack & the table(s) you want onto your computer, and copy the Program Files ophcrack folder to the thumbdrive. It works portably. I've tried it, and it works.
I'm no expert programmer, but i'm not sure its that simple...
Just because it works DOESN'T Mean it's totally portable!
Does It leave Reg Values/Keys? Is it PAM Format?
There Is A way to put the live CD onto a flash drive and boot from there.
Who cares ?
The issue is : does it work or not ?
It works.
It doesn't need the OS for anything else than doing it's task,
hence there's no need for any registry-crap other than what windows always does.
You can run it directly after extracting the "installer" with 7-zip but without any tables it's pretty pointless ..
