I have Portable Firefox and Portable OpenOffice.org, and I'd really like to have OOo files opened in my portable Firefox. However, I can't use the "Activate Mozilla plugin" checkbox in OOo because I also have a local version of Firefox... 
Also, I take FF & OOo to different computers, so they have different drive letters on a regular basis... is there a way to get around those problems?

Just associate it in Firefox with OpenOfficePortable.exe. Then next time you open it, it'll give it as an option. Don't worry about the drive letter being used, the Firefox Portable launcher takes care of that for you.

There's an OpenOffice.org plugin for Firefox that allows you to view OOo documents *in Firefox*... I don't want the documents to open in OOo, but use the OOo plugin within Firefox. Will creating that file association within FF do that?

You can't use the plugin portably. It won't work. It's better to associate it. The 'plugin' still needs to load up all of OpenOffice.org anyway, so it's no faster.
Plugins get stuck in memory until you shut the browser down and can cause stability issues. That's one of the reasons I recommend against PDF plugins even in local browsers and recommend associating it instead.

OK, thanks... I had wanted to use the plugin to save RAM usage, since I don't usually have a lot of RAM free... but since the plugin needs to load OOo anyway, that's kind of pointless.
