Xion - Audio Player

I came across this whilst looking for PA MOD skins. One of the preview pics had this on it so I googled it. It's a small app that plays almost any music format. It can also be skinned and has loads of skins on the site. Plugins are limited, but I suspect it's fairly new. The app is freeware I believe, so should be eligible for PA.

Presently it has two versions, an installer and a portable version. The current stable version is 1.0 build 100. Though there is a beta at build 124 and the next build is the stable release build 125. I'm unsure if this includes the portable version or not.

Anyway the home page is below, check it out its a great little app -

I had tried the older portable version of Xion and liked it. The new beta came out and changed the settings storage from the local directory to the registry.

I wrote to the author and expressed my disappointment that he was abandoning portability by going to the registry.

He wrote back and said not to worry that there would be a portable version before the final release of the new version.

In the meantime, you might want to try CoolPlayer+Portable. If you are into skinning, try XMPlay.

I dug around...

Here's the email that I received on 09/13/2009:

Hi Jim,

Thanks for taking the time to email me.

Actually, I haven't released a portable only version of the Xion Beta's yet. The latest Beta's are for standard PC Install only. Once its out of Beta there will be a dedicated Portable version available for download. This shouldn't be too much longer now.

Don't worry, there will be a dedicated Portable Version update when the new Release comes out, which will replace the current Portable download on the Download page.

Warm regards,

Not sure exactly what level of "portability" or whose definition it will use, but it sounds pretty positive to me.
