Portable DVD Flick (DVD Authoring tool)

DVD Flick aims to be a simple but at the same time powerful DVD Authoring tool. It can take a number of video files stored on your computer and turn them into a DVD that will play back on your DVD player, Media Center or Home Cinema Set. You can add additional custom audio tracks, subtitles as well as a menu for easier navigation.

http://dvdflick.net/

Its also totally open source. (the only reliable DVD Authoring software I could find, if you know of any better open source DVD Authoring Software I am all ears.)

The website states that it is portable but it requires you to do some work and create a bat file to open it. I would try to make a portableapps.com installer and program base but am just now trying to teach myself how.

I was wondering if some one could try to develop this app into a portableapps.com application, Smile

ImgBurn and InfraRecorder are

ImgBurn and InfraRecorder are definitely NOT authoring programs. I'm not sure what DVD Shrink can do.

DVDshrink isn't really the

DVDshrink isn't really the same thing. Also, it's no longer developed and is closed source so isn't likely to become official here.

I'd like to second the request for DVD Flick though - it's a great program

Please don't reference Lupo

I understand that Lupo Pen Suite has been certified illegal, and my own look a week or two ago confirmed that. So please don't reference their site at all.

Found illegal by whom? And

Found illegal by whom? And why? When I just browsed the site it all seemed like publicly available freeware.

I've never really liked DVDStyler. DVD Flick looks promising.

Functionally, not a whole

Functionally, not a whole lot. I do find DVD Flick much more user friendly though. I'll use DVDStyler for now but I'd still like this if any of the devs feel the same way

+ 1 for DVD Flick

DVD Flick is much simpler. I have used both. I didn't try DVD Styler on HD video from my neighbor's camera, but I know Flick supported it and made great DVDs.

Just so you know

Your DVDs aren't HD; to encode a compliant DVD video, an authoring program must downsample HD content to 480p, from either 720p, 1080i, or 1080p, depending on the camera.

If you want the video to stay HD, you need a Philips DVD player with HDMI out, an Xbox 360, a PlayStation 3, or a Western Digital video player. For the first three, you have to learn what formats the devices will play. The Philips DVD player can play Divx HD, the Xbox 360 needs WMV-HD, and a PlayStation 3 can actually play a few formats, but I haven't got one, so I haven't read much into it. Not sure about that WD player. It's just a little box, doesn't take a disc, I figure you hook your computer up to it or maybe a flash drive or external hard drive.

I didnt want HD DVDs

I wanted to use the HD video to make good looking DVDs, not HD DVDs. Once it sampled down the video, it looks great.

DVD Flick > DVD Styler

DVD Flick is the best. I've used it for years for home videos, party videos. Great UI and it takes almost any format (50+). The only downside is

a) it is slow (but it is doing heavy duty lifting and

b) Portableapps doesn't support it! I love many portableapps but DVD Styler is not one of them.
