  • Runs web applications faster than ever
  • Designed for efficiency and ease of use

New In This Release

This release updates Google Chrome to the latest version and features a greatly improved installer. Directories with spaces now work properly.

PortableApps.com Installer / PortableApps.com Format

Google Chrome Portable is packaged in a PortableApps.com Installer so it will automatically detect an existing PortableApps.com installation when your drive is plugged in. It supports upgrades by installing right over an existing copy, preserving all settings. And it's in PortableApps.com Format, so it automatically works with the PortableApps.com Suite including the Menu and Backup Utility.

Thanks for your work on this Dan. I updated the default profile and made a couple housekeeping changes, so please base future builds on that. It's built with the 1.0 PortableApps.com Installer (fixes the extract to directories with spaces) which is being posted today.

Hmm, I never had any problems with paths with spaces. If you say so. Smile

I'll integrate the changes with my local copy, then, once 1.0 Installer is made available for public download.

Hi, there is no automated installer (though I would invite anyone interested in making such a thing to feel free to do so) however the process is not too complicated:

  1. Open the folder C:\WINDOWS\system32\Macromed\Flash
  2. Select the following files:
    • NPSWF32_FlashUtil.exe
    • NPSWF32.dll
    • flashplayer.xpt
  3. Open the folder GoogleChromePortable\App\Chrome-bin in another window.
  4. Create a folder called plugins and copy the aforementioned selected files there.

You're done!

You might not need NPSWF32_FlashUtil.exe actually, it might just be a bit used by Flash to update itself, but I never tested Flash without this file so I can't be sure it isn't required.

It's maintained as long as you place it in the directory Dan outlined.

I've tried to put Plugins folder under Data folder before and it works just fine. Especially with previous version. I did that since I notice ChromePortable from [illegal site removed by mod JTH] put those under Data folder. I am putting Plugins under the folder you've mentioned to see the result now. Thank you for your information.

The Dev channel will pretty much always be out of date since it's constantly being updated. We'll just be providing peeks into here and there for folks who want to check it out. We won't be announcing Dev releases as announcements on the frontpage either, just posting them to the page as they are done. It's really only mentioned to let folks know that it's now available.

It was close to not making it in for this very reason, so it's really an experiment that it's available... we'll kinda see how it goes.

I haven't released 4.0.249.0 yet in portable form, you are welcome to update it by hand though. I provided instructions in the help file.

On my WinXP laptop I have to run google chrome (even the standard non-portable version) with the --no-sandbox option.

If I install either the portable 3.0 or 4.0 Beta/Devel version on my USB key and add the --no-sandbox option, google chrome starts correctly (it would crash at startup without the --no-sandbox option) but then I quickly get a Blue Screen Of Death.
The BSOD does not happen with the normal non-portable version.

Please add to freeware and commercial PortableApps.com Installers ability to use a local version of original installer so users can switch to local or online installer, if they prefer to download installer PAF will do it automatically, but if they already have on disk make it possible to use it.

I'm unable to watch anything from HULU.COM using Google Chrome Portable. Does anyone know what I need to do to make it happen?

I am also waiting for integrated Java Portable in this Google Chrome Portable Smile I hope it will be released soon.

Does anyone have any idea why Chrome isn't working with Google Search? I can navigate Google's website, but I can't search anything. It says "sending request" and just sits there. Does anyone know why this is? I would really like to keep Chrome, but can't if it's acting like this...

- EDIT -

Come to think of (and try) it, I can't use Google on any portable browser but Firefox...

Is it still in beta version? Any final release available in PAF yet?
