Aptana Studio 2.0

Program: Aptana Studio 2.0

License: Open Source/GPL

Description: HTML/CSS/JavaScript IDE based on Eclipse

Website: http://www.aptana.org/

I've found a previous thread on how to make Aptana Studio 1.5 portable, but the instructions don't work for Aptana Studio 2.0. I would love to see this open source application made into a PortableApps.com Portable Application if possible.

Thanks!

Oh hey, It's an Eclipse

Oh hey, It's an Eclipse Plug-in.

I'll take a look at this to see if it does anything that affects portablality in Eclipse Portable.

For the time being, you can install Aptanta's plugin version inside Eclipse Portable Biggrin

Just open up Eclipse Portable and follow Aptanta's instructions on adding it to eclipse. Choose any build you want. Any build will work.

Solo Build

Would you be interested in doing a solo build of it based on Eclipse Portable as well? It seems to be pretty popular.

Sure. I just downloaded the

Sure.

I just downloaded the standalone app. You can really tell it's eclipse based. I don't think it'll be hard Biggrin

Edit: Actually, I should have it done by 4'o clock today (-5 GMT), All I have to do is tweak my Eclipse launcher a tiny bit. It stores it's settings exactly the same way.

Edit 2: Ran into a development bump, it uses the registry, unlike Eclipse.

Bugger. Does that mean it'd

Bugger. Does that mean it'd be a really big hack-job to fix it?

How 'bout the plugin for Eclipse? Does that use the registry as well?

Keep it out of Eclipse

I would recommend to keep it out of Eclipse. The sizes all just add up:

  • Java Portable - about 130MB as I recall it
  • Eclipse Portable - 100-200MB (can't remember exactly)
  • Aptana Portable - 100-150MB (Eclipse version may be slightly smaller though)

I've never used Aptana inside Eclipse, only as standalone. And it's big enough (read: too big) as it is...

I can't see why someone who wants to do it can't do it as standalone. Smile

Let's hope somebody wants to!

I certainly hope that we can find a developer who has the know-how and the want to portable-ize Aptana Studio 2. Here's to them, whoever they may be!

why won't this work?

Too many bridges you can burn
Too many tables you can't turn
Don't wanna live my life in the real world
