Portable Firefox works just fine without any extensions. But when I
eventually installed upto 7-8 extensions it ceased to startup on a
different computer. Instead the windows Task Manager shows Firefox.exe
at 9,000KB of Memery usage continuously. Ultimately, I had to move the
extension folders to some other directory and start firefox without
any ext. Then if I install the extensions it works. But it reappears
on a different system and so on.
The extensions I use are following:
1. DownThemAll
2. ScrapBook
3. Google Toolbar
4. IE View
5. Video Downloader
6. Stumble Upon
7. Orkut Scrap Easy
(All latest versions)
I tried manually editing the Extensions.ini file to change the paths
of all the extensions but no use. I guess Google Toolbar is the
culprit because it is the only extension, other than some DOM
Inspector (which I guess is a Firefox component), to have path
information in COMPREG.DAT:
abs:D:\Extras\Firefox\Data\profile\extensions\{3112ca9c-de6d-4884-a869-9855de68056c}\components\googletoolbar.dll,1157717820000
I have tried switching Pen Drives, Computers (they are all latest),
removing certain extensions (GoogleToolbar for example), but just when
I think the problem is solved, it reappers again.
Extensions are in FirefoxPortable\Data\profile\extensions\. You have to move \Data\ entirely and specify where it is in the ini. Due to the way the launcher is set up, it cannot be on a different drive, and must be deeper than the launcher. And unless you know exactly what you're doing, it is not a good idea to directly edit any files used by Firefox.

did u even understand what am i saying?? i move the extensions to another folder so that firefox DOES NOT start with extensions. And I DO THAT because my firefox does not start up at all if all the extensions are installed, it just hangs around at 9,000 kb of memory usage. so u see I move the extensions to other folder just to back them up, so that when needed i can put them in the required folder and start it.
now if anyone could tell whats the problem????
If you're using a USB1.1 port, it takes a lot longer to start FxP with extensions. With a USB1.1 port, several extensions, and the Compreg and Chrome fixes on (they are by default), it can take 10-15 minutes to start. It can take even longer if extensions or themes are waiting to be installed or uninstalled.
BTW, you don't have to move extensions to start Fx without them. You can pass the --safe-mode parameter to the launcher (via command line or shortcut).
