InfraRecorder Portable 0.50 Rev 3 has been released. InfraRecorder Portable is the popular InfraRecorder CD/DVD burning program packaged as a portable app, so you can do your disk burning on the go. It has all the same great features of InfraRecorder including the creation of custom data, audio and mixed-mode projects and recording them to physical discs as well as disc images. This new release fixes an issue in InfraRecorder itself which hides desktop icons on Windows 7. It's packaged in PortableApps.com Format so it can easily integrate with the PortableApps.com Suite. And it's open source and completely free.

New In This Release
This new release fixes an issue in InfraRecorder itself which hides desktop icons on Windows 7.
PortableApps.com Installer / PortableApps.com Format
InfraRecorder Portable is packaged in a PortableApps.com Installer so it will automatically detect an existing PortableApps.com installation when your drive is plugged in. It supports upgrades by installing right over an existing copy, preserving all settings. Spaztastic, thanks for fixing this
Thanks
Edit : wrong information. sorry
I think you forgot to add
I think you forgot to add this to the front page...?
Added
Quite right. It's been added, thanks.
You added the wrong link
You put a quote in the end (link") and thus broke it.
Um, huh?
The link to this article on the homepage is fixed and working, as I said.
I fixed it
That's 'cos I fixed it (BuddaChu created a thread about it requesting deletion when fixed).
Sometimes the obvious is worth asking
This probably goes without saying but I'm assuming if we're not using Windows 7 then there's no great urgency for us to upgrade, if at all?
Thanks!!!
I hope CK comes up with a fix for his installed version, too. Any idea how this bug got there in the first place?
Is this an unofficial fork?
The official site still carries the old version both as news and as a download.
Is it possible it's not a fork but that you meant "this new release fixes an issue in InfraRecorder Portable itself"?
InfraRecorder Itself
There is a bug in InfraRecorder itself which sets desktop icons on Windows 7 to hidden when it is run. It shows up when you logout and back in or reboot. And it's confusing as all heck because most users have no idea how to change it. So, it's a serious issue.
I coded our portable launcher to reset the setting as InfraRecorder exits to whatever it was before InfraRecorder was run, thus fixing InfraRecorder's issue. So, no, this isn't a fork. But, yes, InfraRecorder Portable has handled a bug that exists within InfraRecorder itself.
Got my answer
I guess that answers my question then. I've yet to encounter a Windows 7 machine and am probably unlikely to do so for several months yet. However, for the sake of true portability it seems there's no harm in updating.
Fix doesn't work as expected
The fix does work, and restores the 'view icons' setting.
But only on a registry level.
Meaning that the 'right click' view menu never reflects the change
and if you do click it or some other program references it instead of the registry.
The icons will still disappear.
But if you log out / reboot the rick-click menu is updated from the copy in the registry.
and you icons do not disappear.

This isn't the ultimate solution to the problem,
This isn't the ultimate solution to the problem, just the best fix that's possible with the PortableApps launcher.
And even though what you mention is possible, it's unlikely, and this fix does what it sets out to do.
In the end, the solution needs to come from the original developer. PortableApps is usually not used for fixing core issues of the applications, but in this case, John felt it was serious enough to address, and simple enough using our launcher.
I full understand and agree
I full understand and agree.
You are doing the best with what you have.
You have buggy software and you are trying to make the impact and discomfort as little as possable.
Which I thank you for.
I manly wrote what I wrote as I 'heads up' to all (both users and programs) that thought the bugs was dead.
It isn't, it is just handled.
The bug can only be truly killed by the original developer.
But which setting is that?
Which setting do you reset after exiting?

Thanks! Is this a precedent?
Thanks for the link. Is this the first time you unofficially fixed the portable programs for them?
You'll be able to write in the main page: "we force programs to be portable. Oh, and we also force them not to act evil (whether they meant to or not)."
Wow
Learn something new every day. I was wondering what was going on, why my desktop icons were randomly getting hidden every so often. I never made the connection that it was a bug in InfraRecorder. So thanks for fixing it, this was really driving me batty!
Out of curiosity, wouldn't this have affected Vista as well? I'm pretty sure you can hide desktop icons there, too, but my memory may be faulty as I haven't used Vista in over a year (been using Win7 since beta)...
