Chess and checkers programs

Can anyone port a chess program and checkers program to portableapps.com?

Not the kind which requires two people to play, but ones which you can play against the computer.

I tried looking under the "Games" section, but they aren't there?

Essential

I agree, these should be essential. Windows has gotten some people sick with Minesweeper fever; I never saw the advantage. Now, I will waste some serious time in Klondike (Windows solitaire). I would love to see Solitaire, Tetris, Checkers, and JezzBall portable. Chess would be cool, too, but it's not a quick or accessible game, it takes longer to learn and games can go on for longer than you may have at the time. A chess program shouldn't be limited to local play, either, I'd want one with LAN/Internet play. I'm a bit rusty, but I'd play any of y'all a game if I had the time. Can't say for sure I'd win, but I used to do alright.

I wonder if one of the older Chessmaster games can be portablized. Find one that's commonly available used on Amazon or wherever, before they started getting stupidly huge in disk space, make a launcher for it, install it and just copy the directory over.

WinBoard

For Chess, Ryan McCue made WinBoard Portable a long time ago... maybe I or someone else should update it.

Cool!

Wow - *fantastic*! I'll go over and grab a copy right away!

But... Why isn't it listed under the games section here?!

...

A lot of the apps on this site aren't in the app directory, which only lists certain selected apps (usually the most popular, but some oddballs such as "Mac on a stick"). Most apps get posted in the Beta Testing forum. And if you look at the URL, it's hosted on another site, so it's not even here.

No directory?! Crazy!

That's crazy!

This is a bit off topic for this thread, so I'll move to general dicussion - why don't we have a proper list, instead just bits and pieces?!!

Moved to here

OK, so I went ahead and

OK, so I went ahead and updated it anyway Smile Just for myself...

What's the score about uploading it? I guess I need Ryan's permission, is he still around?

As it was a PR it has an old style splash, so I guess it can't use that anymore. Is it a dev test or a PR?

Not that it'll ever get "released" LOL...

Go ahead

Ryan doesn't mind about people taking over his applications, he's fading out here. It'll be a Development Test, the system back then had Pre-Releases being first releases from known developers, so it'll need to go through it all again.

Get chessmaster XI grandmaster edition potable here

Please contact me to obtain chessmaster XI portable on

jamesokedi@gmail.com

The archive is in 10 parts. Each part 100MB in size. Use winRAR to unpack it and enjoy. It is the full chessmaster XI, including the opening video and all the libraries and databases. The only thing missing are the 3 chess tutorials (Art of Learning, Jose and Chessmaster) that come with the full version.

No tutorials?

Surely the tutorials are more important than an opening video?

The morals of piracy aside, despite the growing size of flash drives, people don't need a 1GB chess suite. Some advanced features like tutorials and LAN play would be cool.

Too bad none of the old Chessmaster titles were never GPL'd or otherwise freely released. I had Chessmaster 2000 on the Amiga and I loved it. It fit on one 720k floppy disk and it was great. It was also just a little bit more than what most people, I would think, would need out of a portable chess program. But I suppose if you want the biggest and best, Chessmaster is the way to go.
