Windows 98 Support

Summary: Can anyone point me to the Win98 final version wrap up that John T Haller suggested about a year ago? Does anyone have a copy of Portable Java with Java version 6 update 07, and the Portable Java Launcher that goes with it?

Full post with background: About a year ago, in a post about Infracorder John T Haller indicated that there was likely to be a once for all final bargain basement wrap up sale of things that work with Windows 98 before the OS was evicted from this site for good.

Did it ever happen? Because hunt as I might, I have been unsuccessful at finding it. If someone knows where it is, could you please point me in the right direction.

In the meantime, I have an urgent use for Java Portable and Java Portable Launcher that work on Windows 98 as well as on other Microsoft OS. Does anyone have a copy of Java Portable that includes Java 6 update 07 or earlier? The one listed is the point at which Sun deliberately stopped it from working on Windows 98.

I have looked on Sourceforge, and the versions only go back to update 14.

Many thanks for your help.

Otto, Thanks for your swift

Otto, Thanks for your swift reply, I should have updated my post with what I subsequently did. Instead of worrying about the installer, I went back to what little detail there is on the app page, and tried to recreate the correct directory structure. Into that, I dropped my own copy of Java6u07, and the Java Launcher found it, and ran it. It worked.

At the time I wrote, I was worried it was much more complicated than that.

[Now I am fighting the Java Launcher. It seems to need the drive letter of the jar to be launched; full canonical name, relative paths will not do! But that is beyond the scope of this forum.]

ok other matter

but if you search old versions:

http://java.sun.com/products/archive/j2se/6u7/index.html

they have really an archive there with this and that.

OK, the launcher was probably meant to simply click on a jar from the dialog box of the launcher. For me this did work so far.
