I'll triple check the few extensions I have, but is anybody else seeing significant thumbdrive activity every time they go to another page? Maybe I'm just tired and never noticed this before with 1.5.x.
Maybe it's just read activity and less of a problem.

I just found an answer. You're right, it's in about:config.

I'm wondering if it would be possible to make this change default in future releases of FFP. I'm hoping there are no more EULA issues with it than there were with shutting off the cache, history, etc. by default.
I'm more concerned about the built-in undo closed tabs function. That function in extensions has generally had the same impact as session restore on flash drive function, and I can't seem to find how to shut *that one* off.
The link has the following options, but I only see the third one in FFP 2.0 RC1:
* browser.sessionstore.enabled (bool) - Activate the service. Default is true
* browser.sessionstore.resume_from_crash (bool) - Resume sessions post-crash. Default is true.
* browser.sessionstore.resume_session_once (bool) - Resume session at the next application start, but not again. Default is false. This is used for restarting the browser after application updates and extension installation.
* browser.startup.page = 3 - Resume sessions always. Default is 1 (open to the homepage at browser.startup.homepage)
Any ideas?
Also, anything about the closed tabs function you might find would help too.

Set the first value to False, that should solve the problem. And you should probably do the same for the second, just in case FF gets confused trying to restore a session that isn't there. I think the third saves the session and changes to True when you click the restart button after installing extensions, and then changes back automatically, so I wouldn't touch that one. The fourth sounds like it does exactly what we would want.
Undo close tab is proving more recalcitrant. I can't seem to find anything on it, which is starting to worry me, but I'll let you know if I do.
I had to add the first two values and restart. I still see a fair amount of activity so perhaps that comes from the undo close tab function we are searching for a way to disable (if possible).
No luck on finding anything for disabling the "undo close tabs" that was previously mentioned, but then I don't see anything in a toolbar, context menu, or dropdown menu about this unless it's the "recently closed tabs" dropdown menu, which is always grayed out.
As for the two entries I added in about:config mentioned earlier, I'm not sure if that is doing the trick or not regarding drive activity. Maybe this is something that could be looked at in a later build or something.
On mine, "Recently Closed Tabs" is only grayed out if there *are* no recently closed tabs. Otherwise it's available. And if you right-click on the tab bar, one of the options in the context menu is "Undo Close Tab". If those really aren't there on yours, we need to figure out how you got rid of them, because that's probably the fix we need.
I have no idea why...I added those first two lines in about:config since they didn't exist. By default there is no history or caching in FFP as the default (as usual). I do use the Clear Private Data function, and my extensions (Add-ons) are:

As for 2.0 RC1, I may be going back to 1.5.0.7 for a while and come back after a final release (thumbdrive activity and such). Other than that it looks good.
It runs the local copy on the hard drive of IE, but if you are using some settings (can't remember which ones), it will write IE settings to your USB.

After not making progress, I decided to go back to 1.5.0.7 for now (unitl a final of 2.0 most likely). If you have any luck, let us know...thanks.
I am definitely liking those new features in 2.0 RC2 but still using the previous version on thumbdrive because of activity concerns.
I am also beginning to like the idea of using a lot of portable apps on the desktop instead of the full version most of these programs have, so long as the only main issue is the one-time establishment of the default program to open a particular filetype.

4th post on the page has links to descriptions on how to disable session saving (which we had right) and undo close tabs. Worked perfectly on my flash drive. Tabs open smoothly, extra drive activity gone. Looks like we can move to 2.0 after all.
