PUSS 1.02 has now been released. There have been a couple of minor improvements such as the inclusion of a horizontal scrollbar and the re-selection of the previous item in Secure. Also you will notice that the default categories are back in. Finally I have moved to app to a standard foldername so that you should find that with the next release you can extract it over the top without any issues. Please see the project page for more information and a download link.

I be overly optimistic if I thought that no posts in 24hours meant no issues?

One thing I'm unclear about is in the Backup section where you have "naming" part 1 & 2
Whats that about?
If I put "backup" in pt 1, and "today" in pt 2, I end up with a file called backup_today, but I could just as easily put a name like that in pt 1 only, so what is the purpose of having two entry fields? if its only purpose is to split out the two names and put an underscore in the middle, bit confused.
after reading the support page, I guess its to support %variables
The handbook isn't that big, it might be a nice idea to have a button entitled "help" on the dialog of PUSS itself, and maybe a lnk to an offline .txt or .htm file that contains the stuff contained in the hand book, I doubt it would come to more than a couple of kb but would be useful, especially if you weren't able to get online just to see the help.
using parts makes it easier to support variables. As for offline help I am actually compiling a .chm help file at the moment, expect to see it in the next release.

For the help, why don't you put support for all the modules in it?

Are you ticking the Overwrite Files box? (Just in case)

I'm using the Update module so the Overwrite gets grayed out?
Well, it works for me.

it does it by comparing the file modified times, could you post up for me?

Basically I'm updating my external hard drive with my logs from AIM. I have them in a folder such as C:\Program Files\AIM\Logs\screenname\buddy'sname\logfilename.html When I sync I tell it to sync C:\Program Files\AIM\Logs with E:\Documents\Logs\. However, it doesn't sync the logs that are recent (that don't exist in E:\). Basically it should be copying over the new files but it doesn't. And when I tell it to copy and overwrite, it doesn't do it either. So I'm kind of lost as to how I should get it to work.
It's also happened when I told it to update FirefoxPortable\Data\profile with the same setup on my external harddrive. It would not copy the bookmarks.html (not sure if it didn't copy any others but that was just the noticeable one it didn't copy) even though the date on my local bookmarks.html was much newer than the one on my external.
Well I can't reproduce any of this, could you tell me your OS. I can create a new folder and copy and existing folder to it using Update and that works. I can then edit some of the original files and run Update, which copies the changes files across.

XP Home SP2
It happens in basically all my directories that I try to sync, Music, Pictures, AIM Logs, Portable Apps, you name it.
that is crazy, is anyone else having there issues? I'm a little bit stuck on this one as I cannot reproduce any of the issues. I've search through my code to find any problems but I can't. So basically I'm at a loss.

Works fine for me on a XP Pro (No Service Packs).
I'll try it on a XP Home SP2 and get back to you.

what I am going to do is create a special debug version, send you a copy and then we will really know what is happening.

Alright, sounds good. If you need to contact me in some way, let me know how you want to.
work on the next version has begun. I am planning on adding a command line interface (for Secure initially but with Backup and Sync being added later) and an option for a bi-directional update i.e. it will update one folder first and then the other, giving you two identical folders.
Yours
Steve Lamerton
For the bi-directional update, if I delete something in one folder will Sync then also delete it from the 2nd folder or will Sync restore the deleted file/folder to the first folder? My biggest gripe with many sync utilities is that the only way for a deletion to survive the sync is to manually delete from both locations prior to any sync.
thats and interesting point, I think that the easiest way to solve that issue would be to give one folder priority, i.e. if it wasn't in that folder then there shouldn't be a copy in the other one.
Yours
Steve Lamerton
I've seen is to keep some sort of "database" of folder contents. SyncToy puts a sync file in every folder while others put a single tracking file in the highest level folder.
I'm not so sure a fixed priority would work for me. Usually whichever one is used last is the one I want to have priority. If I get to pick which folder has priority at run time, though, this would probably work.
saying "would you like source or destination to take priority" I have seen this in some (non)portable apps.
by popular demand that is how it will be! No let no one say that I don't listen to popular demand!
Yours
Steve Lamerton
P.S. So if I'm getting this right what should happen is that there are two folders 1 & 2. If I set folder 1 to have priority then there will be only those files in folder two, BUT if some of the files in 2 are newer, then it will keep them?
- to be able to select whether 1 or 2 is the source on a per sync basis. This might be a pair of radio buttons.
-Newer files in the source are copied to the destination.
-Files/folders in the destination but not in the source are deleted from the destination.
- Hmmm, didn't think about newer files in the destination. If you just leave them, then you haven't truly synced and source/destination are different. Logically you should copy older source file to destination. But I can see the value in copying the newer destination file to the source. Maybe an option for this?
Will there be a command line version? Could be handy for automated syncing.
will be supported, but probably in a later (but only by a week or so) version (i.e. I don't want too many changes at once) !

I know why you don't want to put them all at once.
