RBTray - minimize any window to the system tray

RBTray runs in the background and allows the user to minimize most windows to the system tray by right clicking the window's minimize button. It is tiny and self contained. It supports XP, Vista and Win7. Both 32 and 64 bit versions are available.

License - GNU GPL

Site - http://sourceforge.net/projects/rbtray/

RBTray is mentioned in one other post on this forum but very little information is provided, so I believe it is permissible for me to post this.

Would you like me to knock it

Would you like me to knock it into portable apps format?

My apologies

I seem to have caused some confusion. In starting this thread I had intended merely to bring the application to the attention of the community, and put it forth as a possible future addition to the PortableApps suite. I believe the function RBTray provides would be an excellent addition. I was not suggesting that anyone perform any sort of task on my behalf, though the offer is certainly appreciated.

I do apologize for not making myself clear in my original post. I had thought this was the appropriate section for this thread. Was I mistaken? Smile

Yes, you mean so you can

Yes, you mean so you can download it like any other portable application and run it from the portable apps menu like any other app?

Yes...

I suppose that is essentially correct. I have found it to be very useful and thought it was the sort of app that others here at PA would appreciate.

Not to be a party pooper...

I don't wish to steal RBTray's thunder but DM2 has this functionality however I don't know about compatibility with Vista and Windows 7.

Just thought I bring this to the attention of the PortableApps community. In addition, I appreciate the OP's intent. Thanks!

I was going to mention DM2...

I don't wish to steal RBTray's thunder but DM2 has this functionality however I don't know about compatibility with Vista and Windows 7.

DM2 hasn't been updated in some time, but it does work for me without problems on Win 7 x64. However, I have not done any real testing, nor have I used all of DM2's features, so something may indeed be broken.

DM2

I have looked at DM2. It certainly does a lot of interesting things, but most of it is stuff I don't need. I have found several programs that can minimize to the system tray. I guess I prefer RBTray for now mostly because it is so simple. It does the one thing I need done, and it does it well. Smile

Agreed, sometimes it's better to use one small program that does exactly what you need it to, rather than use a slightly larger program that has lots of features you don't need.

Ironically, the one feature I started using DM2 for (the directory shortcuts) I don't use much and I've ended up using a different feature more instead (virtual desktops). The virtual desktops feature is actually a little bit bugged but I keep DM2 around because of the things like minimizing apps to the sys tray, always-on-top and transparency features which I use from time to time.

Anyway, as I stated above, I certainly didn't want to take away from the original suggestion, sometimes less is indeed more.

It is pretty good, and since

It is pretty good, and since it was mentioned, I have been using it. I have tried DM2 on my windows 7 32 bit machine and don't particularly like it, however RBTray does work perfectly.
