So now I am absolutely sure my current hard disk is just about death!
I done a regshot, what was clean besides the following file:
All working good, but would be nice to have proper language switching, at the moment it just switched to Dutch automatically. (I suppose that's what my OS is set to!)

I'm not sure what's up with the language switching; I didn't do anything to directly impact that, as far as I know, so it's probably CrystalDiskInfo itself. Did it switch languages if you selected a different language from the Language menu?
As for that HTML file, I didn't notice it during my testing but I've got a bad feeling about it. Did you do anything Internet-related with CDI (e.g. opening the help files)?

Language switching: DiskInfo.ini, [Setting], Language=English or Dutch
It seems to set it self to the OS default if DiskInfo.ini (or value) is missing, but if I set it in the menu to English it keeps the setting. So just set up the launcher to switch it accordingly.
File left behind: No I didn't open any help file, I just tested it by only running the app and closing it immediately, and it produced the same file ! Probably will be a real hack to deal with that one !
Some thing else: I do not think there is any need for static files/folders to be moved from/to the Data folder. Like 'CdiResource\theme' & 'CdiResource\language', or maybe even the whole 'CdiResource' folder !

Re: Language switching. I'm actually inclined to leave it as-is; most users will probably appreciate having CDI use the OS language by default.
Re: File left behind. I just found out why my tests didn't detect this: on my machine, it's deleted as soon as CDI exits. Are you sure CDI actually quit? There's a hide function somewhere in there, IIRC, so CDI could possibly be running in the background? I know that's not likely, but it's certainly worth checking before I try XULRunner.
Also, what OS are you on? I'm on XP Pro SP3. It's possible the OS difference is causing this, in which case feedback from others would be really helpful.
Re: CdiResource. I'm not sure how static those folders actually are; users can add more themes, etc., so I figured I'd put CdiResource in Data. I did the same thing with BleachBit Portable.
I'm not sure I'm right, though, so some feedback from others would be good here too.

App won't run at all without elevation (run as adminstrator) on win7 (and presumably vista) ... I guess the launcher should have a manifest so that it will automatically prompt for this?
Yep, you're right. CrystalDiskInfo won't run without admin rights on XP, either.

I get an error box: Fatal Error. Missing Language Files!!
After I dismiss it, it seems to work properly and correctly chooses german language settings.
I use XP SP3 w/admin rights, german language.

#1: Are you launching CrystalDiskInfo Portable from the Platform or separately?
#2: Do you have the latest version of CrystalDiskInfo Portable?

Hi, at first glance, I didn't find anything suspicious.
1: Yes, directly from the Platform.
2: Yes, installed yesterday evening.
3: Yes. 2 folders (dialog/language). The language folder contains 26 languages files.
I'll try a fresh install and report later.

Too early... Second launch produces the same error. I did a directory compare and appart from some minor changes in theme coloring (in default data) from 3.6.4 to 3.7.0 a setting in Data\DiskInfo.ini changed - from "German" (fresh install) to "GERMAN" (second run). Maybe case sensitivity is the problem.

I happens when the launcher copies DiskInfo.ini to the folder "App\CrystalDiskInfo". When I rename in before the launch, it is created new and no error occurs. When I edit it while CDI is running, it is stored correctly in "Data" after quitting. It gets somehow edited at the next run (by the lauchner I suppose).

As you suspected, case sensitivity with the language setting is probably the issue. I've uploaded a new Development Test of CrystalDiskInfo Portable; could you please see if that fixes your problem?

Hi, the language error is fixed, but I found a new issue. The error message is now:
Not Found "CdiResource\theme\default\Main.css".It occurs just at first launch and the launcher quits afterwards. At the second launch, everything is fine.
Obviously the folder
CdiResourceinDatais created at first run, since it initially is empty. The folderthemenever appeard inApp\CrystalDiskInfo\CdiResource\.After that everything works, and the folder
themeis copied fromData\CdiResourcetoApp\CrystalDiskInfo\CdiResource\and back by the launcher.That is incredibly weird. I've got more questions for you, if you don't mind, because I can't reproduce this at all.
* Can you consistently reproduce this?
* Was this a clean installation of CrystalDiskInfo Portable?
* Are you sure the theme folder never made it to App\CrystalDiskInfo\CdiResource on first run? I'm not doubting what you're telling me, I'm just hoping the theme folder took a little too long to copy (as opposed to not being copied at all).
* While CrystalDiskInfo Portable was running, did the theme folder get copied into Data\CdiResource\theme? (It's important that you check while CrystalDiskInfo Portable is running, because things change after the launcher exits)

Ok, I doublechecked before and had reproduced it about 4-5 times with the reported observations (everytime deleted the folder CrystalDiskInfoPortable and reinstalled via PA Platform (2.0 Beta 5 Pre 2).
Now I tried it again and I worked right from the start.
I observed both folders (
DataandApp\CrystalDiskInfo\CdiResource) and everything appeared as expected. What puzzles me, is that I didn't change the setup, same procedure as before. I just exited and restarted PA Platform once in between as it got hung up during uninstall of an unwanted app (I know why I usually delete folders manually...).To answer your questions, just for the record:
Now everything works fine.

Weird. It was probably a one-time problem with your system, as I've not seen anything like that and I don't believe there's much (any?) opportunity for a race condition in the PortableApps.com Launcher. I will mention this to Chris Morgan (the head developer of the PortableApps.com Launcher) though, just in case something is wrong.

It seems to me that the most likely explanation is that something had a handle open on the directory - if it was open in Explorer, that will be the culprit. Having a handle open on the resource locks it so that the Rename command fails.

That was what I thought at first and checked it with unlocker because I only had two explorer windows open (
DataandCdiResourceso no problem here). But as said, I tried some Dev-Test apps before, some of them kind of unstable. Should have restartet PA or my Notebook sometime earlier...I still think it's likely to have been locked in some way by some handle. Unless any further evidence comes up, I think I'm willing to dismiss it as a freak situation.

I'll take a look at CrystalDiskMark. I'm a bit hesitant to take on a new app right now, since I have very little spare time and plenty of apps on my hands already, but CDM doesn't look too bad (just a single settings file in %APPDATA%, if PortableFreeware.com is accurate).
EDIT: CrystalDiskMark was even easier to work with than Portable Freeware suggested. Here's my portable version.
I'll update Iron when I get a chance; as I mentioned, I don't have much time, and Iron is one of the most demanding apps I have, both in terms of time and computing resources, so I've been focusing on my smaller apps that require less time to update. Once I finish getting those back up to date, I'll see what I can do with Iron.
