Ok, i've downloaded the portableapps software to my memory stick, however when I open firefox through it, it wont connect to the internet, every time i type something in the URL it keeps coming up with an error page. Why is this? whats going on!!
Thanks in advance
Most likely, you are blocked by a proxy. To check, try our proxy tool:

ok when i type say. google.com into the URL it says server not found. What do i do? im not very good with computers so you might have to talk me through it?
Your computer is probably protected by a proxy. Usually a work or school PC. Which means you can't connect to the internet normally. So, you need to download that tool I linked to and run it. It'll tell you if you are using a proxy and what the details of it are (so you don't have to check Internet settings yourself). Then, after you find it, you need to tell Firefox to use that proxy via the setting mentioned in that link.

and how do i do that?
and there is two links one for a proxy checker and one that configures settings or something which one do i click on?
Download and run the proxy detector. Download it to your computer by clicking the Proxy Get Utility link and select where to save it. The same way you downloaded Firefox Portable and ran the installer. See what it tells you. Then follow the instructions for changing Firefox's settings.

ok ive done that and ran it, everything that comes up is.
This computer is using and automatic proxy configuration script with an address of: (then its just blank)
this is brought to you by....etc
there is no instructions or anything?
In that case, the tool can't help you, since it can't automatically read proxy configuration scripts. If your PC's browser is Internet Explorer, you'll need to get the address out of there and then get it into Firefox.
Your best bet is to check Google for how to get it out of IE and then again for how to get it into Firefox. There are numerous sites within a few results with pictures.
Actually, this page shows both side by side with the steps to get to the screens:

Just fire up Internet Explorer and go into settings to get the address and then Firefox Portable to set it there.
