[Fixed] Warzone2100 v2.3.1 will not start

Warzone2100 won't start up. I get the splash screen and then it dies. Running the program \App\Warzone 2100\warzone2100.exe directly results in an error in OpenAL32.dll and the dialog box states:

"OpenAL32.dll is either not designed to run on Windows or it contains an error"

This is on Win 7 Pro 32bit.

Broken on Win 7 Pro 64bit as well

Tried re-downloading an running on my laptop using Win 7 Pro 64bit. Still same result. Get splash but program won't launch. Running the game executable directly gives me a different error on this OS:

"The application was unable to start correctly"

BTW: I checked to see if OpenAL32.dll is UPX compressed and it isn't. I was going to decompress it to see if that helped but it's not a factor.

Hi, ... I have Windows 7 x64

Hi, ...

I have Windows 7 x64 Ultimate, a screen of 1920x1080.

---
Please, dont enable fullscreen.

Also, when not in fullscreen, the max window size is 1024x768.

Change the file "config", inside your portable game directory "Warzone2100Portable\Data\settings\"

fullscreen=0

That's all nice and

That's all nice and everything, but the game dies with the default settings. If the game shouldn't start in fullscreen, the file users download needs to have that set by default, not the way it is right now.

I agree

Guess my old comment about Warzone Portable is still valid.

interesting

I guess so. The patch fixed the issue for me, but it would be nice if the launcher behaved more nicely.

Very Rare

That's a very rare issue that I've never come across on any PC I normally use. I haven't seen a computer incapable of 1024x768 in... years.

I believe this was originally done because for some reason the default in the app were much too high for most PCs and would not start. Billy227 would know more since he was the original dev.

Now please stop threadjacking. If you want to discuss this, respond in the original thread or start a new one with the prefix [Bug] and it'll be addressed when it can.

Ummm,

By default Warzone starts/uses 640*480 fullscreen. This works on all computers I've seen.
Warzone Portable starts 1024*768 fullscreen (and without ini-tweaking always 1024*768) and that's not working here. My PC is capable of 1024*768, but Warzone Portable isn't working fullscreen here. 1024*768 windowed is no problem.
Ergo Warzone Portable is bad design (see my other thread).

Again

"I believe this was originally done because for some reason the default in the app were much too high for most PCs and would not start. Billy227 would know more since he was the original dev." I don't know what was done on the original. It could have been because the game looked bad by default or showed up windowed or didn't work on some PCs. I don't know, and I do not care to debate it.

It is the way it is right now, and if you want it changed, please stop threadjacking and post to the other thread. We'll get a test version built with some changes and see how it works on multiple PCs and then do a revision once we're satisfied it is an improvement. Continuing to complain about 'bad design' in this thread will accomplish nothing at all and I'll just have to lock the thread as this is off topic: the posted about bug is FIXED.

patch worked

I just now saw the patch JTH linked to. I gave it a try on both machines and the game launches now using the portable launcher.

Since it sounds like a graphics issue, here's my screen specs on both test machines:

Win 7 Pro 32bit - 1680 x 1050 using True Color (32bit)
Win 7 Pro 64bit - 1366 x 768 using True Color (32bit)

Both are the native resolution of each monitor.

Windows Aero theme in use (Aero is on) for both machines.

No problemo JTH

Thanx for the update, I'll give it a try now.

Edit: Worked great! I might have found another issue however. I'm testing to see if what I think happened, actually happened.
