Every single time you insert it in a Windows Vista or Windows 7 computer? Every time? Really? Even a brand-new drive, never been used, even when you've used the Safely Eject Hardware feature, or an equivalent Eject script (like the one in the PortableApps platform)?
Clearly this "feature" was meant to be something special, but ended up dead on arrival, basically asking you if you want to scan every single removable disk you insert, trying to frighten you with tales of damage that realistically have no basis in fact.
(Does this work how it's supposed to for anybody?)
Anyway, I did some Googling, and found a real simple solution:
1. Hit the Windows key or click the Start menu.
2. Type CMD.
3. Right click on what comes up, and choose Run as Administrator.
4. Type in, without the quotes, and hit Enter: "chkntfs /d"
5. Now insert your flash drive or plug in your external/portable hard drive or phone or iGadget or whatever, and see if it harasses you about your device being damaged.

Does this work on removables that are formatted in NTFS?
SWAG
It did for me. So far I have only tried one device, my portable Seagate Expansion hard drive, formatted NTFS.
