Pidgin: 2.7.1 Spell Checker has changed from Aspell to Enchant

Spell Checking has seem to have changed for pidgin users from the usual Aspell to OOo dictionaries, but has yet to be corrected in the Portable Apps version.

You'll need to install it to PidginPortable\App\pidgin\spellcheck\share\enchant\myspell yourself.

Tested and it works. Thanks John

It does not work...

I also found out the hard way that Aspell doesn't work anymore. I then checked the forums to report/request for help on the matter and thus here I'm.

John, on your How-to add the spell check support feature on Pidgin, you say to create the following directory and install the dictionary files there:

PidginPortable\spellcheck\share\enchant\myspell\

If I install the dictionary files there, the spell checker doesn't work at all. At least for me it doesn't.

---

Now when I stall the dictionary files to:

X:\PidginPortable\App\Pidgin\spellcheck\share\enchant\myspell

It does work.

NOTE: By default I found that the following directories are already created X:\PidginPortable\App\Pidgin\spellcheck\ You only have create the following ...\share\enchant\myspell

I hope this helps.

I concur

The path listed in the instructions is erroneous.

Correct path is as listed above:
\PidginPortable\App\Pidgin\spellcheck\share\enchant\myspell

Open question for everyone, when cleaning up Aspell was it just the one directory in the \App\Pidgin\? I forget what I had to do to set it up (ergo I don't remember what I need to do to remove it).

Correct

I can also confirm that only unzipping the dictionary to

X:\PidginPortable\App\Pidgin\spellcheck\share\enchant\myspell

works for me.

You may want to fix https://portableapps.com/support/pidgin_portable#spellcheck

I'm quite sure this is all

I'm quite sure this is all due to the environment variables not being set at all! Language switching also isn't working.

I did send a bug report about this 2 days ago.

Doh!

I followed the (incorrect) instructions on the support page, worked out for myself where the files should actually go then came back here to post a correction only to find several others had already been through the same process.

All sorted now, but the support page does still need to be corrected.

Regards

Nick

converting from aspell

Thanks everyone for posting the correct path.

I'm sure I have lots of words I've added over the years. Anyone know how to convert the aspell dictionary to the .dic format? Any good links?
