Firefox Icon

The Firefox icon at top left corner was easily replacable in previous "beta" version of PFF browser. However, because of hierarchical differences in folder-structure of the current PFF (1.5.0.6), I could not do this easily. How can I replace Firefox icon with mine in Firefox Portable 1.5.0.6? Thanks.

Same thing

It's still the same thing. Unless Mozilla removed the ability for it to be done. The icon was never included in that location in Firefox. I only added it because there was an issue with older versions of Firefox not having the icon under Windows 9x. When that bug was fixed, there was no reason for me to add it.

So, it's now exactly the same for FF and FFP:

But rather than C:\Program Files\Mozilla Firefox, you use FirefoxPortable\App\Firefox

U3?

John,

In PFF for U3 - Where should the icon folder be placed.

I tried -

\System\Apps\3C9F7B3F-D55C-42cd-8537-B878518B73AF\Exec\firefox\chrome

or is it-

\System\Apps\3C9F7B3F-D55C-42cd-8537-B878518B73AF\Exec\FirefoxForU3Code

Thanks John

Code = SC?

I would think that FirefoxForU3Code is the source code folder. I would try putting in the chrome folder instead.

Tried.

Didn't work.

Thought maybe FirefoxForU3Code because that has FF icons in it already.

Does Mozilla allow replacement of firefox.exe in \App\firefox\ ?

I have customized FirefoxPortable 1.5.0.6, generated my own FirefoxPortable.exe launcher with a replaced name and icon. I do not want to redistribute it with Firefox name or logo intact. How can I replace firefox.exe icon in \Apps\firefox\ sub-folder with my icon? Does Mozilla allow this replacement? Thanks.

You can't

You have to compile the entire Firefox application from scratch with the official branding turned off and give it your own name. It isn't just a matter of swapping an icon.

Is it ok for my customized launcher to use firefox.exe logo ?

I suppose the nsi script that generated it is not "open" source, otherwise I could. As explained earlier, my launcher no longer carries Mozilla Firefox logo. Yes, I know Mozilla Firefox organization would not be responsible for it. Is this good enough for re-distributing?

Summarizing

As I mentioned, if you make any modifications at all, you can't use the Mozilla name, the Firefox name, the Firefox logo, the compiled Firefox binaries, the compiled Firefox Portable launcher or the PortableApps.com logo.

You'll need a completely independent name, logo and filename. You'll have to compile Firefox itself from scratch with a new name, branding and logo. And you'll have to compile the Firefox Portable launcher with a new name and splash screen.

Remember, just because a program is open source, that doesn't mean trademark law doesn't apply... and that's what you're dealing with here.
