[Released] Cube 2: Sauerbraten Portable Justice Edition Development Test 2

Application: Cube 2: Sauerbraten
Category: Games
Description:

Cube 2: Sauerbraten is a free multiplayer/singleplayer first person shooter, built as a major redesign of the Cube FPS.

Much like the original Cube, the aim of this game is not necessarily to produce the most features & eyecandy possible, but rather to allow map/geometry editing to be done dynamically in-game, to create fun gameplay and an elegant engine.

This didn't seem at all

This didn't seem at all different from Blood Frontier (I did check a bit though), so I hope this works as well as BF.

Cool

I once looked into Cube2 as its something like the successor of Cube/AssaultCube.
Guess I have to try it some time Smile

All good here

Working without issue. XP SP3 with admin rights.

As good as Sauerbraten is, playing it only made me wish someone would pick up Nexuiz Wink

Not going to happen.

Nexuiz as we know it is dead. Essentially, the original author sold the name, code, and engine away and is closing the source. You can Google the story if you're really interested.

However, Xonotic is a fork of Nexuiz that came about because of this that I plan to package as soon as the first release is available.

Xonotic

I think we'll wait for the first Xonotic release and work with the core devs on making it official.

Development Test 3 release.

Could someone make sure to test that nothing is left over in the user's temp directory? As far as I know Sauerbraten doesn't touch it, so I told the launcher not to bother. I just want to make sure for other cases I have not thought of.

I was about to make a request for this game, then I thought "let's search .."

do I need admin rights or open ports in order to play this ?

From memory

From memory (subject to error) you only need the required rights to add an exception to the firewall. No port configurations required.

I have no admin right on this

I have no admin right on this PC, it's XP.

Assault Cube works fine on XP but is blocked on Win7.

Give it a go

Try it out and see how you go. On some computers where I didn't have admin rights I have been able to use apps that require a firewall exception. I think it's to do with the way the administrator sets their group policies. Give it a go and let us know. You'll be saving future users the worry of working it out for themselves Smile

After you test this, if multiplayer won't work, can you get single player to work?

Just to let everyone know.

I have the update for this ready, but the upload process with Sourceforge keeps crapping out. I'll try again tonight on another computer.

There is a new version of Sauer out

Justice Edition (July 19, 2010)
The installer DL is 448MB! Don't know how small you could make it with the compactor.

Yes, as mentioned in the post

Yes, as mentioned in the post I made before yours. I've done it already, I'm just fighting with Sourceforge at the moment.

With AppCompactor: 429MB download / 510MB installed

SFTP

If you're trying to upload with the web interface (I hope not!) try the SFTP method. You're far more likely to have success with it than the quite troublesome web uploader.

FANTASTIC GAME!

This game has to be one of the best on pa by far...

One question though...
Not meaning to be rude but, Is this game going to become official? I'm sure there are many users who would LOVE this game but might not know its portable or aren't willing to try a development test

Personally I believe this game is perfectly stable and is ready for release as an official app if anyone is going to do so. Smile

Why thank you for the kind

Why thank you for the kind words.

As far as it going official, it's in limbo right now until John takes a look at it. I pass subtle hints to him every now and then, so we'll see when he gets to it.

You're Welcome

If it wasn't for you I probably wouldn't play this game! Thank you for your hard work! Smile

but yeah it would definitely be nice if this could become a portable app. But I think John has a lot of stuff on his plate from other apps and the upcoming version 2.0 of the pa menu so it might be a while unfortunately Sad

Redistribution Permission

I'd suggest contacting the developers to ensure we have permission to redistribute (since the media is not under an open source license). Feel free to CC me if they'd like to ensure it's going to be an official release.

Permission obtained.

He seemed uninterested in hosting the PA.c package itself as these apps are rather portable without PA.c, but we now have permission to distribute.

Also.

Once we have this out and Red Eclipse goes stable, Red Eclipse will use Sauerbraten's maps automatically if installed together. (Well, it does that now, but I'm just referring to the fact they would go well together.)
