I have a suggestion that would seriously benefit the Portable Apps Platform ... why do we have to manually download a whole new installer every time we update our apps? Why can't the platform have an "Auto-update option? Perhaps a nice little menu with checkboxes so users and select what they do or don't want to update at the time ... possibly even a "roll-back" feature, like Windows has for it's drivers.
But of course, that's just what I think about it ... what do the rest of you think: is it a good idea?
That's why it already exists in the beta of version 2 of the PortableAppsMenu.
I only use the stable version ... I should probably pay better attention to the Betas, though. Any idea as to how long before this feature will be included in the stable package?
It's not possible to predict when the final release of 2.0 will be, and if you follow the threads of the posts for the beta, you will uncover a lot of discussion around release dates. In the end, you will find that the statement "It'll be done when it's done" is the most accurate.
Personally, I have grown to dislike the industry use of the term "stable", because it implies that all beta versions are unstable or untrustworthy.
I use several beta apps that are far superior to the "stable" releases in both features and stability - Audacity is a prime example.
I made this half-pony, half-monkey monster to please you.
Google is another prime example... is GMail still in Beta? In Google's case I suspect it's a way to avoid some legal wrangles but who knows.
