Has anyone else had the issue the the "Check for Updates" feature is not working in the ver 2.0 beta 5 release? Every time I select "Check for Updates", a window named "PortableApps.com Updater" opens, but there are never any entries. If I go to the PortableApps.com web site and manually check the version numbers of my apps, I notice that several have updates available. Is the updater not actually being used right now?
TIA,
Jon
I just tested mine yesterday and it worked perfectly. Are you sitting behind a proxy or is there anything unusual with your connection?

There is no proxy here, but I am in a heavily firewalled environment that uses Websense URL filtering as well. Does anyone know the URL of the update site? If I could find out the URLs that I need access to as well as any non-standard ports that are used, I might be able to get them opened on the firewall.

Updates are from this domain, portableapps.com. Your firewall is probably blocking all non-browser-based traffic.

Interesting, I don't think that the issue is Websense then, as I am able to get to these forums without any issues. It very well could be the firewall, does the updater use a different port than TCP/80?
It uses port 80 but it uses a different useragent string than Firefox or IE. This is required for SourceForge downloads to work as direct downloads (ie, not through the browser with the redirect screen with the ads). Your firewall is probably blocking all non-browser traffic.

Bummer...
Well, the problem definitely was WebSense. I dug through the log files and found:
Access denied URL https://portableapps.com/updater/update.ini SRC xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx DEST 72.32.40.232 on interface inside
I did a site lookup in WebSense and found out that they are classifying https://portableapps.com/updater/update.ini as a "gaming" site. Anyway, as soon as I told WebSense to allow access to it, automatic updates started working.
I don't know if you guys request that WebSense corrects this, that they will, but it might be worth asking.
I have contacted them. Hopefully they will fix their error soon. It would be helpful if you could contact them through your support within the app as well.

I will submit this request with them as well.
I just heard back from WebSense, and they changed the categorization of https://portableapps.com/updater/update.ini from "Gaming" to "Freeware and Software Download"
i'm sitting behind a firewall with a Sock5 proxy connection which works well with firefox but doesn't work with the portableapps update.
are there plans to overcome this? thanks.
IIRC websense used to block sourceforge for us at school, in the category of 'executables'
We couldn't even download them directly where I was...

in fact I've updated a couple of programs on different days.
the only program that wasn't updated is Glary Utilities but that may be because it's not "official".

err where is the installer for pre 2??
2.0 Beta 5 reports "2.0 Beta 5 Pre 2" in its About box. So he really means Beta 5.

as mentioned above, I'm almost positive thats what it is. I've had that happen more than once to me on different connections (one where PortableApps.com is blocked, and one where you are required to enter username and password [although it does work if the password is correct]).
