I first posted this as a general TB question, but got no satisfactory answer, so maybe someone can help me here:
I am running Portable Thunderbird 1.5.0.7.
I kept getting a certain message that i receive everyday (a comics.com strip) listed as junk, even though I mark it every day as 'Not Junk'
Day after day it keeps ending up in the Junk Folder. I compact folders regularly.
I added the sender to my contact list, added a filter for that address to be sent to my inbox and had the Junk Controls trust the address book.
Is there a way to mark it as 'Safe sender' or something?
Thanks for your help- Sergio
What does the junk mail log show for that message? You can get to it in junk mail controls dialog.
since i am running PTB from a USB flash drive, i have all logging disabled.
That's what most people around here recommends.
I think when you are expecting to receive this mail you should turn on the log to see what happens. THen after the mail comes turn logging off again.
I see, i will turn it on last thing today.
tomorrow when I get the message I will turn the log off and post the entries here.
Is there a way to edit the training.dat file??
it didnt' log a thing.
I am thinking of reseting adaptative filters and retrain them, or just deal with this problem and go find my strip every day at junk folder.
Thanks a lot!!
PS: It would be great to have a 'Safe List' in TB, just like Hotmail or other webmails.
Any addresses in your address book will be allowed.
Vintage!
but they are not, the mail from comics-AT-comicmembers.com (my daily dilbert strip) keeps getting flagged as junk every day.
I would like to edit my training.dat file (but its binary w/Ultraedit) or adding a safe list or something.

I just found this today. They have an RSS feed.
What address is in your address book? It has to match the sender.
For example, on the Enigmail mailing list, messages are sent to enigmail@mozdev.org, but are received from enigmail-bounces@mozdev.org. If I allow enigmail@mozdev.org, messages from enigmail-bounces@mozdev.org can still get blocked.

I added to my contact list straight from the message, and made inbox rules straight from msg too.
Sender: comics-AT-comicmembers.com
My server does flag it as spam, but all the settings in PTB should ignore that and treat it as I want. (I mean, trust my address book, trust the inbox rules, etc.)

In the Junk mail controls the second option says Trust junk mail headers set by......SpamAssassin as default. Uncheck that box and your problem should go away. Report back with the results.
I thought of doing so, but that will sent all the true junk to the inbox.
It should not work that way. The Bayesian filtering of Thunderbird would still work. It would of course not necessarily put your spam Assassin mail in the junk mail. This is your problem. If you wish to trust SpamAssassin then you need to find out how to tell it not to set the headers on this mail. Or you need to not trust it and find another way to filter the Spam Assassin emails.
Tools -> Junk Mail Controls -> Settings tab
Check "Do not mark messages as junk if the sender is in my:" and select Personal Address Book.
IIRC, this is the default.

Thats what i did in the first place.
I have an inbox rule to move mails from that specific sender to the inbox, had the junk controls trust the senders in my address book, and mark this specific msg day after day as 'not junk' but it keeps ending up in the junk-mail folder day after day.
somehow the adaptative filter is not working and keeps ignoring all those settings.
Get a screenshot of your address book and your junk mail controls (settings tab).

What was happening was that my ISP Qmail server was flagging the message with Spamassassin as SPAM, and when you have TB trust spamassassin's headers it overrules all other settings (which I think is wrong!).
So i have them whitelist that domain.
But i still think that it's a bug in TB that it ignores your address book and your inbox rules.
