Virtual Desktops

Are there any Portable virtual desktop apps in development?

I see several different versions of VirtuaWin floating around the forums but they all seem to be dead.

I know DM2 had a PA.c development version, but the application itself hasn't been updated in eons so I doubt it will make it to a full PortableApps release.

I looked up the only other open source virtual desktop application I know, Virtual Dimension but that project seems dead too.

Am I out of luck?

VirtuaWin

I used VirtuaWin successfully when I was Windows-bound. I tried Virtual Dimension, and it's better, but it has a problem with how it injects something into every executable, so unless mingwm10.dll was in the system PATH it would pop up "DLL not found"-type message boxes whenever you used the window context menu.

I'd recommend that you try updating VirtuaWin and seeing if you can get it working.

Okay

If memory serves, isn't VirtuaWin inherently portable? I seem to remember it stores its settings in an ini, or at least it can be configured to do so? Of course that is to say nothing of system hooks. Are you suggesting that VirtuaWin could not be made entirely portable?

I actually like DM2 since it has several useful features built into one app but on the downside the desktop manager is buggy, and has some undesirable though non-fatal side effects.
