Do I un-install PA and re-install after FF?
Otherwise it defaults to IE on the OS - which is probably a screwed-down version of IE6 (remotely).
ie6 clags in the net-nanny (read surveillance and security - it is what it is)
FF does not.
I use an HTML page as my favourites - it is as graphic and informative as my HTML skills allow (eg telphone numbers, colour coding, and more). Which diminshes any advantage of PA.

Portable Firefox won't take over as a system's default browser; if it's an installed Firefox, it'll stay that way; likewise, if it's IE, it'll stay IE. You should be able to launch Firefox from the PortableApps.com Platform menu.
Also Portable Firefox is not intended to get around Net Nanny type applications; be warned that using it to do so could result in suspension or termination of privileges, often depending on the content you're accessing.
net nanny is what it is, not being got round. FF is so much faster because it is operating locally not remotely. The speed is a real issue when accessing Multimap and webmail pages, lost packets arrive anything up to an hour late and lock-up IE. At that latency they are, to all intents and purposes, lost. FF does not suffer from this. And can operate while Multimap loads - not the quickest but in FF3.5 good enough.
I don't see PortableApps recording my browser history which is the only function I would find use for. My HTML page is "my favourites" and better than.
FWIW running their IE6 from VBA in Excel to collect & process 14 day TV schedule data seems to exhibit no problems. (IE was chosen because in VBA the browser variable properies/attributes are better documented).
Yea Yea "set current" works on every instance of "F:" drive
But the whole point about portability is that you don't know what drive it will be in Bill's, Jim's, Jemima's or the Library PC.
on 3.6.10 I finally got it to work (after 3.6.7 - .9 didn't) but with a completely new installation 3.6.10 is back to it's old ways - same drive has to be defined as "F:" (or whatever) rather than "same drive - go find it please"
Yea yea I put a selection of drive options on the toolbar - one of them usually does the trick and for the duration I seem to remember which. I tried all the syntax I could think of for Windows PCs. Any suggestions?
SO? How to make the homepage drive independent and by default "this drive"?

If you set your homepage to anything on the current drive, it automatically is updated as you move drives. If FFP is on F and your homepage is on F, after you close and move to another PC and get H as your drive letter, the FFP launcher updates your homepage to H before launching FF. You don't need any complex formatting or anything, just open the file and then set it as your homepage. It even works with multiple tabs.
If you go manually changing anything, it'll break.
