What download manager and give us a link.
Also, try Libertà Lapwing.
(Side-note to Steve and Renè: When the Lapwing page goes back up, it probably won't be the top result :()

FlashGet (http://www.flashget.com/) is now completely free (used to be commercial), and can be run without being installed. It is an advanced download manager, supports authentication, ftp downloads, http downloads, is also a download management utility (allows you to sort and categorise your downloads).
I've got it in my todo list of stuff to make portable, so there will be a launcher for it in the near distant future (how distant that is I don't know as yet, as life has a habit of getting in the way ).
Not any more at least. I don't know if it was in the first place.

Been running FlashGet for a while, before it became freeware and afterwards. Have never had any complaints from virus scanners (NOD32) or spyware scanners (adaware and spybot). One time something did pick up one of the dlls in the FlashGet folder (think that was AVG), and deleting that file made no difference either way so I left it in future installations. May just be false positives, same as NSIS keeps getting picked up as a virus, when everybody knows it isn't!
I couldn't get Portablewackget to work - i was wondering if it would make life easier. I was wondering if it conflicted with the Firefox extension DownloadStatusbar?
The DownloadStatusbar seems to have fixed the problem with the firefox download manager which seemed to get slow and then to the point of not working. I was doing alot of educational downloads in pdf yesterday and didn't have a hitch. Appears to work well so i'll probably stay with it.

If you just want something simple, Rob (a forum member here) made a portable version of WackGet, available from http://www.robloach.net/projects/portablewackget

FlashGet used to be a spyware/adware app. No longer true?
Not any more at least. I don't know if it was in the first place.

Users may wanna Google for flashget & spyware before turning it loose on their system.

In regards to firefox and download manager, DownThemAll (http://www.downthemall.net/) appears to be the best, and works fine.
