I've read the instructions for transferring FF settings to Portable FF. When I navigate to Firefox\Profiles I don't find \default.??? Do I simply copy the contents of my Firefox 2.0 profiles folder to the Portable Firefox profile folder? Thanks.

If someone's seeking to simply copy their profile from local to portable, I don't think PUSS is a good suggestion. They still need to know the directories. And, in this case, the person is having difficulty finding said directories. I know you want to promote the project... and while PUSS is a good option for people who ask to sync their profiles... for someone who simply wants to copy their profiles, it isn't really appropriate. Copying the files is much less complex than having to learn a whole program for someone that simply wants to copy a profile.
Now, back to the problem at hand.... Firefox 2.0 stores its profile in a directory similar to the following:
C:\Documents and Settings\[user]\Application Data\Mozilla\Firefox\Profiles\[randomchars].default\
On Windows 95/98/Me, it's actually within the Windows directory (I think a Mozilla subdirectory there).
In either case, you need to copy the files *INSIDE* that last mentioned directory above (???.default) to FirefoxPortable\Data\profile. Do not copy the full contents of the Profiles folder mentioned above.
NOTE: Both [randomchars] and ??? mean the same thing. A set of random characters. Mozilla apps use this for security, so the profile isn't in the same directory on every machine. It'll look something like this: nqlh1xk9.default

You think he will understand this? What if the user has more then one profile? Which one should be copied to the stick? That one with the randomchars in it or the otherone with the questionmarks?
I find the situation with the profiles and the numbers everything else than satisfying. Once I saw a user's profiledirectory with more than have a dozen folders. All of them had valid profiles in it. But the user didn't know that. He only knew that from time to time the bookmarks where gone an firefox was asking him to define a user ...
About 99.9% of people have exactly *ONE* profile for Firefox and Thunderbird. That's its default behavior.
