launcher updater error messages for externaly or non-paf apps

hello there!

as in topic, is it possible to get a information about
non-updateable apps in the list?
maybe a notice about alpha/beta status will be nice too!

?

What precisely do you mean? I can't work out what you mean at all.

I can guess only, but I think HellTiger means some kind of list of installed apps and in there a note which ones are not in the update database, because they are dev-tests or whatever. Maybe he wants a complete list of all installed apps with their current state...

I don't know what is planned for the next version updater, or how it is organized internally.

There is still the manual way:
You can check for every app if it is dev-test or official released via tooltips - but only if the developer of the dev-test did it right and marked it as development test in the appname.ini. Official apps don't have any special "marking", development test should be described as such. That is not very reliable as there are some older beta/dev-test apps that are not marked right, but it is a hint.

yes thats it.
there are also maps wich are not listed in portableapps.com, they are not noticed in the update log. a non-updateable message for such custom executables will be nice.

Not really needed...

All apps you download from the official app directory here are updatable, but only if the portable package (paf) is updated before. That can take some time after a base app is updated for various reasons.
Every other app can not be updated with the PAc updater. So if you from time to time hit the check for updates button, you get all that is there. No way to get more out of it.
As you have to update dev-tests manually you have to check for these anyway. If you use Apps from other sites, you should keep track of them by yourself.

Chris, would it be worth

Chris or John, would it be worth adding a new field to the .ini file for each app featuring a URI which is the primary update link? This would then allow apps that haven't been released here but are put together elsewhere to also be updated by the platform's updater.

Obviously there are potential risks involved from a security point of view, but they are no lesser or greater than the risks of installing a paf.exe'd app from another site that is not official here anyways.

Nope

We don't want to be the vehicle for installing badware. Our updater would become that if apps could get updates from wherever they want. All the updates in our system have been checked before being sent through.

Yeah, good call. Wasn't

Yeah, good call. Wasn't really thinking of the image side of things with that suggestion.

Also it would help to limit illegal Portable Apps that weren't malware as such from utilizing too much of the awesomeness that the official apps can make use of.
